Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, July 23, 2025

The US president said Japan would "open" its markets to American cars and rice, which had been sticking points during negotiations between the close allies. "We just completed a massive Deal with Japan, perhaps the largest Deal ever made," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform late on Tuesday. "Japan will open their Country to Trade including Cars and Trucks, Rice and certain other Agricultural Products, and other things. Japan will pay Reciprocal Tariffs to the United States of 15%." On Wednesday he added: "Our businesses will make a fortune. Likewise Japan!"

Some questions:

1) will US cars and truck pass Japan's more stringent safety regulations?

2) will US manufacturers change the orientation of the driver's seat, last I checked, Japanese drove on the left side of the street?

3) Japan's streets are narrower than US streets. Will US manufacturers make the size car wanted by Japanese?

The largest vehicle in Japan's top 20 list is the Toyota Land Cruiser at 19th.

You can open a shop on main street selling ---- tacos but that doesn't mean people will buy them.

You can "open" Japan to buying American cars and rice...but don't expect anyone to be buying them.

---- ME!

DID ANYONE READ THIS DEAL?!

Japan won.

Japan gets a lower tariff rate then other countries for its cars giving them a competitive advantage in the US.
Japan will invest $550 billion in the US...but its in equity and loans to Japanese business investments in the US and likely already going to happen over the coming years.
Japan will open its country to US rice and cars...that they were already buying anyway.

We got NOTHING from this deal. Absolutely nothing.

And Japan got a competitive advantage over other countries to sell into the United States.

TACO does it again.

@#11 ... -DID ANYONE READ THIS DEAL?! ...

Specific details, including any manner of confirmation by Japan of those details, are still lacking (no surprise there).
