Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Mike Johnson has said that the current government shutdown could become the longest in history, as an impasse between the Democrats and Republicans drags on with no end in sight. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Johnson, a Republican, said that he would not negotiate with Democratic lawmakers until they suspended policy demands related to healthcare, a dispute at the core of the shutdown.

Democrats have called for an extension of subsidies under the Affordable Care Act that millions of people in the US rely on to buy healthcare plans.

Republicans have said that the issue can be addressed after the government is reopened, but Democrats have expressed doubt that the Republicans will honour that pledge.

Earlier this year, Republican lawmakers passed a huge tax and spending bill that is set to result in the loss of healthcare access for more than 15 million people.

Anyone here ever come out unscrewed from a deal like that?
Anyone?

What, O What is exactly in those Epstein Files?

I think that none of our speculations to date comprehend it.

So before republicans will negotiate with democrats the democrats must give up whatever leverage they have, forget who they are and what they want to negotiate about first. Then they will negotiate.

Sure! And this makes some kind of sense to a maga maroon?

Whatever is in those Epstein files Trump and his minions like Mike Johnson are in such a flop-sweat to keep buried, it seems reasonable to conclude based on his behavior that Trump must think it's political dynamite packing the kind of wallop he might not be able to survive.

And he should know. Because he's in those files. That he's keeping locked away. Trying to maintain the ...

Whenever republicans make promises (especially like this one) it always reminds of Lucy promising Charlie Brown that THIS TIME she will not pull away the football at the very last second.

This reminds of a line you get from used car salesmen. "I'll fix that after you buy the car."

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of congressional critters names are in those files as well! Madison Cawthorn, a republican former congressman from NC, said that his republican congressional colleagues invited him to orgies. If, in fact, what he said was true, could it be that Epstein sponsored and organized those orgies and republicans in congress don't want their names exposed if the Epstein files were released?

It's been reported that DOJ notified Trump that his name was in the files. He was probably told about every name mentioned therein and now has something to hold over the other child molesters. This might explain some of the hold he has over congressional republicans, business leaders, etc.
