Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) on Friday publicly called for the acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to reject a vaccine advisory panel's recommendation to no longer administer doses of the hepatitis B vaccine to all newborns.

Risks of the hepatitis B vaccine for newborns are minor. Temporary side effects like soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site, mild fever, and fussiness. Serious side effects are rare.

Hepitis B, on the other hand, can destroy a liver.

And be passed on to others by an unvaccinated baby who grows up
