Democrats also overperformed in two special elections in Florida with Rob Long winning Florida house district 90 by 28 points. The democratic candidate won seat by 12 points last year and Kamala Harris led Trump by 10 points in the district.
Despite losing, democrats should feel a sense of hope in the special election for Florida senate district 11 where the Republican won by 18 points a year after the GOP candidate and Trump led by 40 points during the 2024 election.

Trump posted two fulsome endorsements on Truth Social, both spelling Gonzalez's name incorrectly, and aligning him with the Trump agenda for "secure borders" and cracking down on "migrant crime".

Trump's endorsement didn't help. In addition to Trump's endorsement, Emilio Gonzalez was also backed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Democrat Eileen Higgins defeated her Republican competitor in a race that was Republican's to lose. First time in 30 years a Democrat has won. And she isn't even Hispanic.

In an interview with El Pais this week, Higgins said: "He [Trump] and I have very different points of view on how we should treat our residents, many of whom are immigrants."

During the Miami mayoral debate, she called the president's immigration enforcement "inhumane and cruel".

Look for more and more competitive GOPiggies to start squealing about prices while Pedo47 gaslights us with "Prices are dropping like never before" and "Affordability is a democratic hoax".

English is a second language in Dade County. The days of Jewish grandparents from Nassau or the Upper West Side are gone. The large majority of Spanish speakers in Dade County are hard-working, and here in the US for the opportunity to get ahead, and for that I applaud them. Either turnout was terrible, or voters in Florida are getting quite sick of El Dotardo II. This election is a warning to Florida GOPers, most of whom have now burned their MAGA hats and banners, except for the randy holdouts at The Villages...

Checking out some of the stories this morning about Miami's mayoral election I noticed references to the percentage of the area's population born outside the US. That number is around 57%. It's quite a mix, so generalizations can be hard to arrive at. But if you consistently show a bit of respect you will find masks coming off.

As to the majority of the folk you're writing about being hardworking: boy howdy. You said a lot in that short post, by the way. Thanks.

Trump had to hold his nose endorsing someone named "Gonzalez".
That doesn't sound like an American name.

Speaking of American names ...
How about Hinmatowyalahtqit (Thunder Rolling Down the Mountain)?
