Growing number of House Republicans sign on to effort to force vote on ACA subsidies -- defying Speaker Johnson

The cruel irony of Republicans voting down ACA subsidies is that it will end up hurting Trump voters the most. 57% of ACA Marketplace enrollees live in congressional districts represented by a Republican. They're selling out their own voters.

"This move comes as the subsidies are set to expire at the end of the month, which will prompt health premiums for more than 20 million Americans to soar."

While Johnson has not yet unveiled the specifics of his plan, an extension of the ACA subsidies is currently not expected to be included in the package. Johnson said the bill will "probably" be unveiled over the weekend ahead of next week's anticipated vote."

While I may disagree with the "always" aspect, I do [mostly] agree.

@#1 ... What, they want to keep their jobs or something? ...

The choice that seems to be in front of many (most?) GOP Congress folk of late looks to be: step on to the Trump train, or be subject to a primary and lose.

Tracking the retirement announcements of members of Congress

... Ahead of next year's midterms, a number of members from both major parties have already announced they're heading for the exits, either because they're seeking higher office, simply aren't running again, or are leaving the chamber early. ...

imo, the 2026 election my be interesting ...

Politicians rarely provide much in the way of real leadership. They've typically Peter Principled themselves into positions that, unfortunately for us, come with serious responsibilities the execution of which may have huge effects. Basically, they follow the favorable winds (as in favorable to them). The only way pols from MAGAt heavy districts will break from the GOP "concept of a plan" no plan is if a sufficient number of their own voters start banging at the doors. And MAGAts are a very long way from blaming Trump for anything. But this may just trump their out of control xenophobia and overheated concerns about sexual identity.

Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas, and in this case, one also gets up with an inability to show one as being an independent actor in Congress. Once a MAGA, elected by their faithful, always a MAGA. Ask MTG.

Full repeal.

Disaster care is a failure, subsidies a band aid that will be needed in perpetuity.

@#12 ... a band aid ...

What is the solution your current trolling alias proposes?

I've seen this ...

...
Candidate Trump on healthcare:

May 21, 2015
I'm not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid.

Sept 25, 2015
Everybody's got to be covered.

Feb 17, 2016
We're going to have great plans. They're going to be much less expensive and they're going to be much better.

Oct 25, 2016
You're going to have such great healthcare at a tiny fraction of the cost, and it is going to be so easy.

Nov 13, 2016
It will be better healthcare, much better for less money. Not a bad combination.

"I'm not going to cut Social Security like every other Republican and I'm not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid."
-- Trump to the Daily Signal in May 2015

"We will immediately repeal and replace ObamaCare - and nobody can do that like me. We will save $'s and have much better healthcare!"
-- Trump tweet in February 2016

Pres-elect Trump on healthcare:

"We're going to have insurance for everybody ... There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can't pay for it, you don't get it. That's not going to happen with us."
-- Pres-elect Trump to the Washington Post in January 2017

Pres Trump on healthcare:

"Our healthcare plan will lower premiums & deductibles -- and be great healthcare!"
-- Trump tweet in May 2017
...

So, my question becomes ...

When will Pres Trump stop lying to Americans about healthcare?

#13 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-12-14 08:35 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

#13 He's been lying to Americans about healthcare since 2015.

He doesn't have another ten years left.

He will never stop lying about healthcare, or affordability, or jobs, or taxes, or murdering fishermen, or gas prices, or prescription prices, or.....yada yada yada.

The Republicans are beginning to read the tea leaves and find out where it leaves them. Want to see a politician get religion? Threaten their seats and you will find suddenly they can do an about face over what they are in favor of.

For years this has been a wet dream of the Repubs, to eliminate ACA. Well, they got it and will reap the whirlwind that comes with it unless they can actually lower the costs of the healthcare industry as it jacks costs for coverage. As the more of the public finds it can't afford the price increase, they'll fall off the rolls of the insured, along with those healthy enough not to have to worry about pressing healthcare issues in their lives. That will leave fewer in the insurance pool, resulting in yet more price increases in the future.

The Repubs will be held directly responsible for this issue come election season and a few are starting to wake up to the results of an unhappy voter base.
