Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, December 26, 2025

Just days before Christmas, West Virginians should be focused on family, faith and the small joys that carry us through the coldest months of the year. Instead, far too many families across our state are staring down something that should never be part of the holiday season: the real possibility of losing their health care on Jan. 1.

People covered by Obamacare and Medicaid may see health care costs rise, but for people on Medicare, Biden-era negotiated drug prices are set to go into effect.

Parents who found coverage they could finally afford last year are opening renewal notices that show premiums doubling or tripling. Older adults who rely on ACA plans until they reach Medicare age are being told their new premiums will rival a mortgage payment. Families who were budgeting for Christmas have been forced to pull from those same savings to keep their children insured.

That's what these MAGAt losers get for a voting for a decomposing orange chomo.

Watching brown people and liberals suffer makes it all worthwhile.

West Virginia is voting itself into becoming the Haiti of the United States.

While I was in West Virginia to settle my mother's estate, I tried . . . I REALLY tried to warn my mother's friends and neighbors what was in store for them and their families.

But it was Trump country and there was no talking to those people. They were deaf, dumb and blind to everything I tried to explain.

They were so backwards in their beliefs that I'm not even going to call them to say I told you so.

Condolences on the reason for your rite of passage visit to West Virginia.

Some people see Weat Virginia as real "Take Me Home, Country Roads" country. I've been there a few times and always found it to be one of those locales with a decidedly "The Land Where They Eat Their Young" vibe. And it's not the topography that does that.

As both James Mattis and John Kelly said, Trump is fascist to his core, that is true also for the core of his base, poor people who are apparently easily fooled.

Have some more meth, mountain folk. Substance abuse worked for your secretary of health and human services-why not for you?

Thanks DOC

It was a busy, busy trip with relatives coming out of the woodwork to see if they were in the Will ~ or try to sneak their way in if they weren't. I caught two of them with over $11,000 in checks that were forged before my mother's death. I got all the money back. It was either that or they get arrested for about 5 different felonies. (It was one of my finer moments ~ LOL)

Probate Commissioner gave me some under-the-table help. Turned out my highschool sweetheart was his father. Small, small world.

Anyway, although I'm a big city girl now I've known those people all my life. Too bad they made the mistake of thinking I was still a hick from the sticks.

What a horror show. Your description of it brought to mind the scene in Zorba the Greek (1964), where rapacious villagers descend on the home of the dying "Madame Hortense" (Lila Kedrova), ready to strip it bare even before she draws her last breath. In its outlines, all too common behavior when a demise leaves property to be reallocated. Often brings out suboptimal behaviors.

West Virginia will eventually be named an ecological reserve and allowed to go fallow.

Those remaining residents will have a good living by way of eco-tourism.

And they will all be liberal Democrats.

It wasn't really a horror show. At least not for me. Actually, I was having a Grand Ol' Time rounding up the thieves and puttin' on the squeeze.

Shame on me. (LOL)
