Conservative women defy the dearth birth

A strange thing has happened to U.S. fertility patterns in recent decades. In the 1970s, there was little to no partisan difference in birthrates. This was an era when the total fertility rate was still hovering around the magic replacement level of 2.1"that is, the average woman could be expected to have 2.1 children across her lifetime, keeping the size of the population stable. The U.S. total fertility rate plummeted to a new low of 1.63 in 2024. A partisan fertility gap has emerged and seems to be growing. Conservatives have more children than liberals. They also are more likely to marry and marry younger. While Democrats are increasingly the party of the childless, Republicans are increasingly the party of parents.

People who enjoy lives of material abundance unimaginable to their ancestors complain that they don't have the material resources to bring even one child into the world, while the very poorest countries are maintaining above-replacement fertility.

Bellringer: From my readings across a variety of disciplines, including sociology and theology and history:

From my recent readings, everyone seems very concerned about the dearth of white births, taking into no positive account the explosion of black and brown births around the world, including in places like the UK.

Population nonreplacement only seems to be a problem for and by white people -- other than the Chinese, who FAFO on the one-child policy and infant femicide in general. Mormons and conservative Catholics and evangelicals are driving white population growth in the US.

I just recently worked on a book from a rightwing Catholic who was complaining that all liberals want to talk about is climate change and income inequality, but none of that matters at all as long as white people keep aborting babies. Who are all these white liberals saving the earth for? Why do they bother?

Author never mentions the two-thirds world. Author never mentions climate change without derision.

The new muscular Catholicism is such a crock of sh!t. This author may as well as titled his book My P!ss-Poor Attempt at Veiled Self-Modesty: A Subtle Racist, Misogynist, Xenophobic, and I'm-Just-a-Regular-Guy Diatribe."
