Given Lake's role overseeing the parent agency of Voice of America, her appearance last week was a sharp departure for the network.

In separate interviews, 11 current and former Voice of America journalists and officials at its federal parent, the U.S. Agency for Global Media, said they could not recall anything like it. Most spoke on condition of anonymity, fearing professional retribution, given ongoing links to the agency, its broadcasters or the federal government.

By law, the chief executive of the U.S. Agency for Global Media is required to respect what is often called a firewall, designed to shield editorial staffers and their news decisions from politics. Back when I was a teenager, and during the Vietnam War, I built a shortwave radio from a kit of parts so that I could listen to what the world was saying.

Shortwave radio was the way you could hear the world before there was such a thing as Internet.

So, I listened to Voice of America. I also listened to Radio Moscow, Radio Peking (as it was called back then), and Radio Hanoi.

So, back then, was VoA propaganda, or journalism>

From what I heard, I'd say the latter. VoA duly reported the defeat and withdrawal of the US to end the war.

If VoA were a propaganda outlet like, e.g., Radio Moscow, VoA would have put an entirely different spin on that event. But they didn't.

All that aside, Pres Trump now seems to be turning VoA into the propaganda outlet your current alias seems to dislike.

So, yeah, I do agree with your current alias' comment that the VoA currently has become a propaganda outlet, by desing of the Trump administration.

And that's a sad end to a voice of Freedom and Democracy to the world.

If you have watched Pres Trump's Cabinet meetings, you may have a better understanding of what he has turned the once world-admired Voice of America into.

A place, an event, in which his appointees gush with praise of him.
