Spain's euthanasia law says anyone of legal age who has a medically certified "serious and incurable illness or a serious, chronic, and disabling condition" can apply. The law defines a serious and incurable illness as one that "causes constant and unbearable physical or mental suffering without the possibility of relief that the person considers tolerable, with a limited life expectancy, in a context of progressive frailty".

Castillo had been a wheelchair user and had complained of constant pain since her suicide attempt. In April 2024, she requested euthanasia, with an independent body in Catalonia made up of doctors, lawyers and bioethics experts deliberating on the application of Spain's law.

Twenty five year old "daughter."

Not a person in her own right.

She gets to exist as someone's daughter.

Women are still their father's possessions, even when they're adults.

Generally speaking, in society, the women belong to the men.

That's what your headline says.

Snoofy,

"Twenty five year old "daughter."
Not a person in her own right."

What in the world are you talking about?

The word "daughter" has nothing to do with her age.

If she had lived to 100, she'd still be his daughter.

Even when she is gone, she'll still be his daughter.

Snoofy,

If she was married, she would still be his daughter.

And in fact the father would now have a son-in-law.

(don't come back with "what if she married a woman")

There isn't enough domestic horror, you had to import extra from Spain?

If I have a choice about "living" in a hospital bed, being fed by tubes, and being forced to breathe by breathing tubes... I'd say, please, just let me pass on to the afterlife.

But the healthcare for profit of this Country seems to prefer to drain my wealth and put liens on my properties to cover their costs as they artificially keep me "alive."

I have a major problem with that.

"The word "daughter" has nothing to do with her age."

Of course it doesn't, because men's dominance over women doesn't end just because a girl grows up.

"There isn't enough domestic horror, you had to import extra from Spain?"

NO ONE expects a Spanish imposition!!!

@#8 ... Of course it doesn't ...

Agreed.

She was an adult, and able to make her own life decisions.

Who else can't wait for Kennedy's HHS to implement "assisted suicide" here?

@#3 ... What in the world are you talking about? ...

Your comment has prompted me to ask of you....

What are you talking about on this thread?

Do you think that a person does or does not have a right to decide when it is The Time to pass into the afterlife?

Are you really so dumb you didn't get his point?

Alex,

"talk about missing the point."

Apparently so.

Alex,

I can't read the article.

I could research it but I'd rather someone explain it.

Seems to me the father tried to stop her daughter from being killed, I guess, by the hospital.

Alex,

"his daughter"...I mean.

Alex,

I see now. People are upset the father is wanting to override the assumption she wanted to die.

jpw,

"Are you really so dumb you didn't get his point?"

Has nothing to do with being dumb.

It should be rather obvious I would not think along those lines right out the gate.

I mean...there's "pulling the plug" to take someone off of life support.

But in this a case they actually had to kill her since they used the word "euthanasia".

jpw,

She requested assisted suicide in April 2024.

What took them so long to kill her?

I've said more than once religion and government (law) don't always mesh.

Some people seem to think they should if it suits your need to use one to support or defend the other.

As a Christian, I believe it's wrong like I also believe abortion is wrong.

However, on a practical level, I disagreed with overturning Rowe V Wade.

And, again on a practical level, I'm not opposed to the idea of assisted suicide.

But I also understand the father who wasn't ready to lose his daughter.
