Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Historian Heather Cox Richardson writes about the Republican Senator in 1950 who took a stand against Republican Senator Joe McCarthy. "I do not want to see the Republican party ride to political victory on the Four Horsemen of Calumny--Fear, Ignorance, Bigotry, and Smear," Republican Senator Margaret Chase Smith of Maine said while McCarthy sat two rows behind her. "While it might be a fleeting victory for the Republican party, it would be a more lasting defeat for the American people. Surely it would ultimately be suicide for the Republican party and the two-party system that has protected our American liberties from the dictatorship of a one-party system."

"... the Four Horsemen of Calumny--Fear, Ignorance, Bigotry, and Smear,"

Congrats, Republicans!

You finally got what the worst members of your Party have always wanted; a return the the worst vision of America in the 1950s... racism, misogynism, and false flag jingoism (look it up).

Ike wept.

Publicly standing up to US Senator Joe McCarthy (R-WI) was a "purity test" for Eleanor Roosevelt, something US Senator John F. Kennedy (D-MA) avoided for years.

POTUS candidate JFK finally and reluctantly "condemned" the notorious Witch-Hunter General before the 1960 election.

FYI: Massachusetts Irish Catholics liked Joe McCarthy, Joseph P Kennedy Sr contributed to his campaign, Eunice Kennedy briefly dated Joe McCarthy, and RFK worked as general counsel on one of Joe McCarthy's sub-committees.

His grandfather and great-uncle weep ...

"His father comes from an Orthodox Jewish family of Ashkenazi Jewish descent from Ukraine, and his mother is a Catholic of Irish, French, Scottish, and English descent. He was raised Catholic, but his mother would also "incorporate Hanukkah" in the family's holiday celebrations."

Ya know... this made me think... I got to know two grandchildren of this man: en.wikipedia.org
Read the end of this brief bio to see where I'm going..

One child was a Deadhead who squandered a beg, borrow and steal fortune... on booger sugar...when he wasn't waiting tables and getting fired... or mooching off his mom... the other followed a military career to a full-bird whatever...

Both are triple Trumpanzees...

I know for a fact.. neither one of them is:
Transphobic
Homophobic
Racist
Anti Immigration

Frankly the same can be said of most of my republicl0wn friends...

just goes to show... you never can tell...
