Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The BBC have officially announced that the Doctor Who Christmas special has been canceled, and show runner Russel T Davies (RTD) has fessed up that he was lying all along and never wrote a script for it. This puts the show in the same position as it was in 1990, when it was effectively cancelled until it was rebooted 16 years later.

The writing on that show went to ---- back when Peter Capaldi was playing The Doctor. Haven't watched it in years.

I grew up watching this show. The original concept of it was undoubtedly one of the best ideas ever - a vehicle which allowed them to explore historical settings as well as science fiction allegories. The show lost a lot of potential way back when it dropped the former and decided to focus almost only on the latter.

It got too alternative for me half way through Capaldi and then just went off the rails and became so inclusive it excluded the straight male sci fi fan.

In the early days it was cutting edge sci-fi.

Unfortunately for the show Sci Fi has matured tremendously since then.

Which I don't think the writers of Dr Who kept up with.

Tho I still shudder at the thought of getting stuck in The Library and or worse in the episode Blink.

"hasn't this show run it's course ?"

The current iteration of it certainly has. For the past 20 years, it's been run by the same three fanboys who used to hang out together in a tavern (the Fitzroy) back the in the 1990s.

The concept of the show still has a lot of potential.
