... Scottish soccer fans have been having a blast in Boston over the past week, with the "Tartan Army" taking over restaurants and pubs, taking a victory lap of the city after their 1-0 win over Haiti on Saturday and marching to a Red Sox game at Fenway Park on Sunday.

They've also been drinking a lot of beer. So much so that some Boston bars ran out.
Sam Adams says its Boston Taproom ran out of Samuel Adams Boston Lager over the weekend because Scottish soccer fans drank them dry. From Thursday to Sunday, it said the Tartan Army drank four times as much Boston Lager as it normally sells during a typical four-day holiday stretch like the Fourth of July.

The company had to schedule an emergency delivery on Saturday morning just to keep up.

"We've never seen anything like it," said Billy DeCain of the Sam Adams Boston Taproom.

And they aren't the only ones running dry.

"The White Bull Tavern, there was no beer," Scottish fan Dave Orr said. "The Scottish fans just drank the place dry and all they had was Bud Light."

"Pretty much everything. We ran out of everything," Paul Morris of The White Bull Tavern added. "Tennent's being number one."

"The fans have been unbelievable. They're great -- fun, drinking, partying -- having a great time." ...

Tartan Army devastated to leave Boston after World Cup matches, "You've been the best hosts"

...

Scotland may have lost 0-1 to Morocco in a World Cup match at Boston Stadium on Friday, but the thing the Tartan Army was most upset about? Leaving New England.

"The Boston people have been extra special and the police. The police have stood back and let us enjoy ourselves, and it's been fantastic," said Tartan Army member Raymond Hadden.

Scots said they were "gutted" to leave Massachusetts, which has welcomed them with open arms. The Tartan Army has brought kilts, bagpipes, and even temporary changes to public drinking laws in Boston.

There is no doubt that the Scots have left their mark. They have even drunk bars out of beer, placed cones on top of statues, and brought cheer to the entire region.

"Love you guys, love this place. Brilliant. You've been the best hosts," said Paul Morton from Edinburgh. ...

Scotland fans have descended on Boston for the World Cup, and bars are struggling to keep up
www.newstimes.com

... "I knew there was going to be a tsunami of Tartan Army (Scotland fans)," said Jason Waddleton, a Scotland native and owner of The Haven, a Scottish restaurant and bar in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood since 2010.

He was right. ...

World Cup fans in Boston, especially the Scots, have put a serious strain on the beer supply in a city that is accustomed to big drinking holidays in St. Patrick's Day and the Fourth of July.

The Haven, which has long served Scotland's top-selling beer, Tennent's Lager, has gone from four kegs a week to ordering 50 just for this week. Other bars have sold out of Tennent's and have tripled their orders to make sure it doesn't happen again. Sam Adams said its Boston taproom ran out of their famed Samuel Adams Boston Lager last weekend after Scottish fans descended on the city. ...

This story about the Scots reminds me of a weekend I spent in the same hotel as a rugby team from Swansea, Wales UK. They literally drank the bar dry every single night. There wasn't a square inch that wasn't covered in empty beer bottles and shot glasses. Then they'd get up at 4:30 to play rugby in their tournament at USC, come back to the hotel, and start all over again.

I once went to Boston/NE with a group of Catholic priests who had a Harlem Globetrotters-style hockey team called The Flying Fathers that raised money for charities. Not a one of them had to buy a single drink anywhere we went, and they drank a LOT of them LOL.

@#4 ... Not a one of them had to buy a single drink anywhere we went, and they drank a LOT of them ...

Yeah, they do seem to know how to celebrate.

And also be grateful to their hosts ...
