In response, Robert Weissman, co-president of Public Citizen, issued the following statement:

"Big Oil's capture of the U.S. government is now complete. Instead of enforcing the nation's environmental laws, the new so-called Energy and Natural Resources Division at the Justice Department explicitly aims to abuse emergency powers to drive oil and gas production, override state environmental enforcement and generally serve at the beck and call of Big Oil.

Nothing could make that more clear than the naming of Robert Levy, ExxonMobil's former executive counsel, a position that had him leading the company's legal strategy on advocacy and civil justice, to run the division.

"The Justice Department that should be fighting to protect clean air and water and avert catastrophic climate change will now work on behalf of polluters to advance the poisoning of people and the planet."

But, hey! Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu is still holding on to power, having watched four POTUS leave office while he expands his country's size with US-made weapons and American taxpayer dollars, liquidating thousands and thousands of Palestinians along the way.

So, cheer up!

"Big Oil's Capture of Government Now Complete"

Helps to have a plan in mind. And execute it.

"America: Second-Rate Power That Few Now Take Seriously"

America is bleeding from the head and has decided to tie a tourniquet around its own neck (using an Abbie Hoffman image) to stop the flow. No great majority appears to be waking up to do much of anything about this. I don't know what's to be done, other than wait for the deaths of those most involved -- who will be replaced. I'm sure the path of succession is already lined up, and hopefully doesn't involve Uday or Qusay. What need have they for government anymore?

Everything turned when Obama was elected. The country was split by Bush/Gore, and now we have generations that have been brought up living in the racist aftermath of the Obama and Biden elections. I had mamaws from the hollows calling me out for being a n------lover when working the polls in 2008.

There's no strong counternarrative like the civil rights movement now, unless one wants to package together everyone's microaggressions in the name of human rights. Also out of favor.

5. That's where my 30-somethings are, which is a lot further along than I was at that age.
