Platner is, as the kids say, cooked. He should drop out immediately so the party can officially start the business of selecting a replacement. My recommendation, Troy Jackson. He doesn't have the charisma of Platner but he's a known quantity in Maine politics having served in multiple terms in both the state house and senate. His politics are similar to Platner's so much so that they endorsed each other when Jackson was running for the Democratic primary nomination for governor in the recent election. He lost that one but it was a strange election with Jackson being one of 4 candidates to receive at least 20% of the first place votes in what was a ranked choice election.

Sometimes I love being right. Credit to the Democratic party of Maine for selecting an upstanding progressive. I would have said other options would be a toss up or likely loss but I think Jackson is likely to send Collins packing.

US Senate and state governor are two very different jobs. It is a fools errand to believe the person who finished 2nd in the choice for governor nominee is automatically the next best choice for US Senate. Shah has outstanding credentials in administration but he has no experience in law making. That is the area in which Jackson has thrived.
