Rabies is by far the scariest disease on the planet. I thought it had been eliminated in terrestrial animals in the US.

It breaks through and rears its ugly head once in a while. The cases are so seldom that most wouldn't know unless they searched for it.

Pretty sure it's the bats. Had a neighbor whose dog got bit by a bat in his back yard many years ago. It was a small lap dog and wasn't up on the rabies shot - it had to be put down. Now change that dog out with a wild animal.
