BURLINGAME: The California Teachers Association, today, filed a lawsuit against the withholding of nearly $6 billion in constitutionally guaranteed Prop. 98 funding from California public schools in the 2025-2026 and 2024-25 school years. These funds were guaranteed to public schools through Prop. 98, enshrined in the California constitution for nearly 40 years.

Kansas has this happen every dozen years or so. The legislature has a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget, but if they under fund schools, they get sued.

Newsom is not running for governor again. And yes I'd vote for him over any Republican for president. Depending on my choices of course. I'd definitely vote for Gavin over Shady JD as many times as I could (because we Democrats ALL cheat now of course).

While there is no single finalized total for all federal funds withheld from California due to ongoing lawsuits, a September 2026 report by the States United Democracy Center tracks up to $177 billion in grants cut or frozen nationwide, with California facing the highest amount of interrupted money.

The state has repeatedly sued to block these actions, with the California Attorney General noting that legal battles have helped protect or recover over $207 billion in contested funding.

Now that we have secured or recovered over $200 billion dollars that Trumpy has tried to steal from Californians we can pay our commitments to our citizens.

I think you're right, he does have aspersions on running for president.

But I believe a democratic from the Midwest or South has a better chance at winning a national vote. (A White, Christian, heterosexual male candidate from the Midwest or South to be exact.)

Did you know the Gov Newsom signed up CA to pay back billions of dollars from the federal government during the pandemic to pay unemployment benefits.
Every State did, every state paid back the Federal Government but California.

No, because the state decided to stiff the FEDS, federal rules now require employers in California to pay higher federal unemployment taxes until the debt is fully paid.
