In 1990, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Muscovites shrugged indifferently and even reacted with hostility over Gorbachev's award, noting the empty store shelves and warning he may face a popular uprising.

Stalin knew that it was close, Hitler could have defeated the Soviet Union and taken Moscow...so to make sure such a thing never happened again, he turned Eastern Europe into a prison, so of course Gorbachev did a good thing by ending that system of Russian control of so many millions of people.
