... Politico has obtained data that shows that the IP address listed with North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson's Nude Africa account is located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina where he lived. ...
OK I do have an issue with this.
When I look up my current IP address on one site ( whatismyipaddress.com ), I am placed in Cambridge, Mass.
Yet on another site ( ipleak.net ), I am properly placed in Connecticut.
fwiw, that latter site, ipleak.com is, imo, a good, informative site.
YMMV and all that.
My concern, imo, IP geolocation is not yet, I'll say, worthy of court evidence.
The ISPs do not seem to be concerned in this area.
@#2 ... The octopus is intelligent AF. ...
Yup.
Why the Octopus Brain is so Extraordinary (no date on the article and video)
ocean.si.edu
... An octopus is a lot brainier than you might imagine considering one of its closest living relatives is a sea slug.
In fact, some scientists argue it could be the first intelligent being on the planet.
They can complete puzzles, untie knots, open jars and toddler proof cases, and are expert escape artists from aquariums.
Even more fascinating -- their intelligence stems from a completely unrelated path to human intelligence, and about two-thirds of their neurons are in their arms, not their head. ...
I've seen PBS programs about the problem-solving abilities of octopi (if you solve crossword puzzles, you'll know that octopi is another accepted pural for octopus :)   )
@#20 ... This is false.

It wasn't just the UI. It was also the overall design of iPod and iTunes, and (this is the important part) the walled-garden that contained those designs...
But yeah, I won't gainsay that Apple may have better at marketing Apple's improved designs of others.

PARC (company)

... SRI Future Concepts Division (formerly Palo Alto Research Center, PARC and Xerox PARC) is a research and development company in Palo Alto, California.[2][3][4] It was founded in 1969 by Jacob E. "Jack" Goldman, chief scientist of Xerox Corporation, as a division of Xerox, tasked with creating computer technology-related products and hardware systems.[1][5]
Xerox PARC has been foundational to numerous revolutionary computer developments, including laser printing, Ethernet, the modern personal computer, GUI (graphical user interface) and desktop paradigm, object-oriented programming, ubiquitous computing, electronic paper, a-Si (amorphous silicon) applications, the computer mouse, and VLSI (very-large-scale integration) for semiconductors.[6][5] ...

The whole defund the police kick was rejected by both Republicans and Democrats.

Denver Gave Homeless People $1,000 Per Month -- A Year Later, Nearly 50% Of Them Secured Housing (July 2024)
finance.yahoo.com
... A yearlong Denver program testing unconditional cash payments for people experiencing homelessness showed that twice as many participants secured stable housing, according to a report released one year after the experiment began.
The Denver Basic Income Project provided financial assistance to over 800 people. Participants were divided into three groups:
- - - Group A received $1,000 per month for 12 months.
- - - Group B received a one-time payment of $6,500 followed by $500 monthly payments for 11 months.
- - - Group C, the control group, received $50 per month.
The one-year report of the Denver project, released on June 18, revealed promising outcomes. After receiving monthly payments for 10 months, 45% of participants secured stable housing. The program also led to fewer emergency room visits, hospital stays, nights spent in shelters and jail incarcerations. The city estimates cost savings of $589,214 due to reduced use of public services.
Unconditional cash transfers, also known as basic income, are gaining traction as a poverty-reduction strategy for U.S. cities. Unlike traditional social services such as SNAP or Medicaid, basic income empowers recipients to prioritize their most pressing needs.
"What is fundamentally different about our approach is how we start from a place of trust," said project Founder and Executive Director Mark Donovan at a press conference.
The Denver report highlights two main areas where the program benefited participants: covering essential needs and fostering financial stability. ...
Oh, that reminds me, I need to stock up on bird seed for the feeders this winter.
Of course, now, here in Connecticut, it is still legal to have a bird feeder in your yard.
That is, until someone complains about a bear accessing that feeder. Then it becomes illegal.
The number of bears breaking into houses here in Connecticut has risen lately.
CT hits record of bear encounters. Officials advise how to avoid conflicts.
www.courant.com
So far, there have been no bears sited in this area of CT, but if that citation occurs, that bird feeder is taken down.
Here in CT it is now legal to shoot bears under certain circumstances.
My guess is that those circumstances will be expanded in the coming years.
