Two people were arrested after an attempted jewelry heist, leaving a car crash and capsized boat in their wake. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, authorities received reports of a man and woman breaking into a residential storage container near the Hood Canal Bridge around 8 a.m. Tuesday. It is estimated the suspects initially made off with approximately $11,000 worth of gold and jewelry. The victim of the theft told authorities the two fled the scene in an SUV with covered license plates and, in an effort to stop them, the victim threw a piece of wood at their windshield, shattering it. The JCSO and Kitsap County Sheriff's Office responded to the call and found the SUV the suspects were reportedly driving. The car was involved in a rollover collision and the two suspects had fled the crash on foot, according to JCSO. read more

President Biden will commute the sentences of around 1,500 people, in the largest single-day act of clemency for any president in modern U.S. history. The commutations, announced in a statement Thursday, are for people who were released from prison and placed in home confinement during the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to the commutations, Biden is also pardoning 39 Americans convicted of nonviolent crimes. Prisons became fertile breeding grounds for infection during the pandemic and some inmates were released in efforts to stop the virus from spreading. The commutations are for those people who were released and are deemed to have successfully reintegrated into their communities. "America was built on the promise of possibility and second chances," Biden said in the statement. read more
