Meta -- the parent company of Facebook and Instagram -- confirmed on Friday that it plans to end some of its DEI policies. The social media giant said it would eliminate a team devoted to DEI and cancel its equity and inclusion programs. Chief Diversity Officer Maxine Williams will shift to a new role, Meta said. The company will also stop an effort to work with third-party suppliers that are diverse-owned, Meta said, adding that it would roll back a "diverse slate" hiring program that ensured a diverse range of candidates was considered for each open role. Still, Meta emphasized the importance of making products accessible for all consumers and employing a multi-talented workforce. The move follows an announcement from McDonald's earlier this week that the company would end a few initiatives centered on diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI.
