I recently had to start using OTP for a website. So I explored the options.

There is google's OTP (highly recommended by sites).

But when I look at the data it colelcts, I see:

"This app may collect these data types: Personal info. Photos and video and 4 others."

Wait, what? Personal info??? For starters, how personal?

So, then I looked at Microsoft's OTP app (another major player).

And I saw...

"This app may collect these data types: location.

OK, that's better, but still...

Then I look at FreeOTP Authenticator from Red Hat, and I see...

No data shared with third parties.

No data collected.

So... which OTP app do you think I will use?

OK, I admit, a major change of discussion here, but related to the collection of personal data...

OpEd: The race to build a better internet " before it's too late

... It sure looks like the people at these major data-hoarding companies have optimized their algorithms to do just that.

As a new book argues, Big Tech appears to have perfected a model that has created rhetorical paralysis.

Using our own data against us to create dopamine triggers, tech platforms have created "a state of perpetual disagreement across the divide and a concurrent state of perpetual agreement within each side," authors Frank McCourt and Michael Casey write, adding: "Once this uneasy state of divisive 'equilibrium' is established, it creates profit-making opportunities for the platforms to generate revenue from advertisers who prize the sticky highly engaged audiences it generates." ...

[emphasis mine]

Wow, aside from the run-on sentence, imo, a good opinion.

He's a one trick pony. Almost all Republicans are, especially on this site.

Didn't get that promotion at work? Must be Democrats hiring illegals!
Go to jail for beating your wife? Must be Democrats ruining traditional marriage values!
Stub your toe on the coffee table? DAMN DEMOCRATS MADE THE COFFEE TABLE INVISIBLE!

You're both going to pretend there aren't a dozen or so active liberals on this site who post the exact same tripe as Bill Johnson in that they blame all the world's ills on republicans?

You don't see it?

Laura,

"You always blame liberals for all of life's ills don't you??"

That's your words...not mine.

I don't blame liberals for all of life's ills.

But certainly some of them.

Wait, what?

I posted this thread.

Are you saying that I am not a liberal?

One thing I note ...

Why the apparent deflection attempt from the thread's topic?

OTP apps collecting and using personal data.
