Taos County deputies in New Mexico arrested two men in connection with the death of their roommate, Matthew McLaughlin (25), a US Army veteran who had moved to the area from Virginia. The men are accused of killing McLaughlin and then disposing parts of his body at several sites near Tres Piedras. McLaughlin was last seen 26 July. Joiner (23) admitted to shooting McLaughlin during a search of the home the two shared with another roommate, David Degroat (22) whom Joiner also implicated in the crime. Joiner allegedly confessed that he shot McLaughlin with Degroat's help, adding that "I did it, I f"ked him, and I don't f"king regret it." Degroat contended that Joiner forced him to assist with the grisly murder and lure McLaughlin into an ambush while he was walking home with groceries.
