The US Navy commissioned the last of its 35 littoral combat ships, the USS Cleveland, earlier this month at a pier in its namesake Ohio city. "Steel. Strength. Power," acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao posted on social media to mark the occasion. Critics of the littoral combat ship (LCS) program had some other descriptions. "Easy meat," said one. The way some musicians play, you think they'll never die. Theodore "Sonny" Rollins was such a man: A saxophonist revered for his huge tone and seemingly inexhaustible improvisations. Rollins died Monday afternoon at his Woodstock, N.Y. home at the age of 95. Rollins was a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, a recipient of a Kennedy Center honor and a recipient of the National Medal of the Arts. And he was the very incarnation of a modern jazz musician. His art was his life. "All these prizes are nice, I appreciate them," he told NPR in 2007. "I don't go crazy about them -- you have to do your work whether you're recognized or not. The real deal is doing it the best you can do it and that's it. That's its own reward."

WASHINGTON " President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Iran wrongly assumed he would retreat from his demands during negotiations to avoid a long standoff ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Speaking at a Cabinet meeting on May 27, Trump said the Iranian regime "thought they were going to outwait me" regarding a peace deal.

"'We'll outwait him. He's got the midterms,'" Trump said. "I don't care about the midterms. Look what happened last night. That was the prelude to the midterms."

Thirty Seconds To Mars is going in for the kill against bots that buy and scalp tickets by giving fans a new way to fight back, but it comes with one unusual catch: they may need to scan their eyes first. Jared Leto's band is using World's new Concert Kit tool to set aside a portion of tickets for verified human fans on its 2027 European tour. The tech comes from Sam Altman's Tools for Humanity, the company behind World ID, an encrypted digital passport created through iris and face scans.

In an October episode of his podcast, Rogan interviewed two octogenarian fringe climate contrarians, Richard Lindzen and William Happer, who together have been spreading climate misinformation since at least 2012. For over two hours, the trio discussed climate myths and conspiracy theories, many of them identical to the misinformation Lindzen and Happer were peddling well over a decade ago. As Yale Climate Connections reported earlier this year, about one in five U.S. adults and 37% of adults under 30 say they regularly get news from social media influencers -- which means they're likely consuming a lot of myths about climate change. While international air travel to the US from Europe, South America, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean is significantly down because of Dummkopf Trumpf's idiotic foreign and domestic policies, travel bans, irrational Islamophobia in America, rising aviation prices, and ICE brutality against foreigners and migrants, air travel from the Middle East to the US has not declined. This month EgyptAir expended service to the US by adding to two new direct routes to Los Angeles and Chicago.

Authorities braced for the possibility that a damaged chemical tank in Southern California could leak or explode as an evacuation order continued into the Memorial Day weekend for 50,000 residents with no timeline on when they can return. Firefighters have been spraying the outside of the tank with water hoses in an effort to cool the chemicals heating up inside and prevent an explosion. Lee Zeldin, head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, said Sunday the "most likely scenario" is a "low-volume release," where officials will be able to "monitor, neutralize, and contain the threat." "The Orange County Fire Authority is working to keep the temperature of the tank down. That is very important," he said on CNN.

Unable to cheat at golf at his health department-sanctioned Bedminster resort in NJ because of heavy rain and opting out of attending his good-for-nothing son's wedding in the Bahamas this weekend, Dummkopf Trumpf unleashed a maelstrom of idiotic AI-generated images confirming that his cognitive skills are in deep irreversible decline and/or he is mixing medications.

The diving tragedy in the Maldives " which claimed the lives of four Italian divers inside an underwater cave, followed by the death of a Maldivian navy diver " has renewed warnings from experts about the risks of cave diving without proper training, planning and specialised equipment.
