"The bill will follow Americans beyond the fighting itself," an opinion piece in the Port St. Joe Star, a tiny Florida weekly newspaper, warned of the Iran war last month. The article ran under the byline Ervin Hoskins, which has also appeared on articles critical of the war in larger publications including Daily Kos and Middle East Monitor, which together have more than 3 million followers on Facebook. Federal prosecutors have been presenting evidence to a grand jury in Washington, D.C., on whether former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson may have lied to Congress in her testimony related to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, two sources familiar with the matter told CBS News. Hutchinson, a former aide to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, drew the ire of President Trump's base when she testified in 2022 before the House committee tasked with investigating the 2021 Capitol attack.

PROTESTS have taken place across Britain in support of the Garvaghy Road residents who are blocking a planned march through their area in Co. Armagh by the Orange Order. A demonstration has been underway along the road in Portadown for more than a week, after legal challenges failed to overturn a ruling from the Parades Commission allowing the march to go ahead for the first time in 28 years. More than 15,000 people made their way to Garvaghy Road to protest against the march over the weekend. Read more

Andrew Tate allegedly had some seriously disturbing material on his devices ... including extreme porn depicting sex acts with a horse and an eel ... according to newly filed court docs obtained by TMZ. The allegations are laid out in a massive filing connected to the UK's effort to extradite Tate from the U.S. ... and things get pretty dark. British authorities allege Tate possessed explicit images depicting people having sex with live animals -- specifically a horse and an eel -- along with other extreme porn showing acts likely to cause serious genital injuries. And that's nowhere near the end of it ... the docs also accuse Tate of making and possessing scores of indecent images and videos of a minor.

"Just two guys, mad at themselves, mad at the world," Mr. Jedlinsky said. "They both wanted to just yell at someone, and they ran into the perfect storm, where there's somebody yelling back."

For the first time in 74 years, CBC did not broadcast NHL hockey on Saturday night, instead filling its traditional Hockey Night in Canada window with cricket. The change follows the end of CBC's agreement with Sportsnet, with the two sides unable to reach a new deal after Rogers secured a new 12-year, $11-billion NHL rights agreement. CBC says it will continue broadcasting hockey, including women's PWHL games, but the end of Saturday-night NHL coverage marks a major break from one of the broadcaster's most iconic traditions. A long list of prominent conservatives have referred to leftists and Democrats as dumb, stupid, incompetent, crazy, and insane. In 2007, Ann Coulter wrote the book "If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans." Both Rush Limbaugh and President Trump regularly referred to Democrats as "Dumbocrats." More recently, the leader of the House Freedom Caucus called Democrats "the crazy party," and JD Vance framed the contrast between the parties as "common sense vs. crazy." Matt Margolis titled a piece in PJ Media this year "Democrats Are Too Stupid to Heed This Warning," and posited that somewhere between the 1990s and today, the Democratic Party lost its mind. Some of this stuff gets a chuckle, but conservatives need to be careful with this narrative. Read more

City police say they were not aware that a white supremacist group was demonstrating outside their department Saturday night until after they were gone.

Imagine starting a fire and then standing by and filming with your mobile phone while a firefighter is engulfed in flames. That is one of the scenes emerging from France's latest wave of unrest. Elsewhere, rioters have doused a teacher in petrol, looted businesses, and set vehicles and schools on fire. The fact that many of the rioters are looting while waving Algerian and Palestinian flags is just a symptom of a much larger, unspoken failure. The ostensible grievance is the condition of French education. The proposed remedy, apparently, is fewer teachers and more ashes.

Okinawa police arrested a U.S. Marine early Sunday on suspicion of killing a Japanese woman and stealing her belongings at a hotel in the prefectural capital. Lance Cpl. Police allege Ballard stole the woman's wallet and another item and killed her sometime between 2:10 a.m. and 4:17 a.m., the spokesman said.

Colorado State's 56-26 loss against Oregon State wasn't without controversy. It just happened to take place on the sidelines as opposed to the field. The Rams announced that they were sacking second-year defensive coordinator Tyson Summers. The transaction appears to have been at least partially influenced by Summer's exit partway through the team's defeat. Summers stepped away from his program halfway through Colorado State's loss. He disappeared into the locker room at halftime, never to return.

An editorial in the Chicago Tribune laments what might have been had "Kenneth C. Griffin not become so frustrated with the state of Illinois as to move himself and much of the financial company he founded, Citadel, to Miami." The Tribune is responding to the news that Mr. Griffin is moving a whole lot more to Florida after departing the expensive dysfunction of Illinois governance.

When the Empire State conducted barbaric prisoner executions by electric chair until 1963, the terminator was euphemistically titled New York State Electrician. Famous victims of Thomas Edison's rocking chair included railroaded immigrants Sacco and Vanzetti (1927) and atomic spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg (1953). The first woman electrocuted in New York was Ruth Snyder (1928), whose insurance murder scheme was the genesis of the classic 1944 film Double Indemnity. Besides the inhumanity of executing convicts, when spies or serial murderers are liquidated, their secrets go to the grave with them. Such villains may wish an improvement in their hellish conditions, such as a newer cell, more time in the prison yard under the sun, or an increase in cigarette rations. In exchange, these malefactors would provide information to investigators on a cold case or other national security secrets they purloined. The lives of three of the five NYS "electricians" did not unfold well.

The latest sales tax increase in Los Angeles County took effect Thursday after voters approved a half-cent hike in June to support health care and other essential services. The Essential Services Restoration Act, known as Measure ER, increased the county's baseline sales tax rate from 9.75% to 10.25%. The increase is temporary. Measure ER allows the tax to remain in effect through Oct. 1, 2031, and is projected to generate about $1 billion annually. Sales tax exemptions include groceries, prescription medications, and medical equipment. Read more
