Joe Biden Dropped Out, Then His Job Approval Takes Off

Since Joe Biden reluctantly stepped aside from the presidential race in late July, his approval rating has steadily ticked up to levels of popularity he had not seen in more than a year, an apparent reflection of both the gratitude of voters who view his decision as selfless and also of a slew of positive economic news in recent weeks. The 48% approval Biden reached in a poll conducted for USA Today last week was the highest mark Suffolk had recorded during the Democrat's presidency.

"He's taken himself out of [the election], he's entered legacy territory with some voters, they've seen he's passing the torch," David Paleologos, the director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center told HuffPost. "So in that sense, it's not point in time job approval, it's more the totality of his administration over the last four years."

Paleologos compared Biden to a retiring athlete getting a last round of applause from the hometown fans: "You forget the bad games and you remember the time when the athlete performed to your liking or exceeded your expectations. It's the same kind of dynamic."

Beyond Suffolk, polling from Quinnipiac University and Gallup has also found big increases in Biden's standing. In Quinnipiac's polls, he went from a net -18 approval in mid-July to -7 in a survey conducted last week. Gallup had him jumping from -22 net approval in July to -10 in August.

Paleologos pointed to Biden's gains with independent women, who have tilted increasingly Democratic since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Biden went from 47% approval to 58% approval with the group in Suffolk's polling.

Since Donald Trump is making the bashing of Joe Biden's presidency his chief talking point - tying everything to Kamala Harris as well - the rise of Biden's popularity becomes another indicator that Danforth's prognostications seem to be spot on if these popularity trends are mirrored by actual votes come Election Day.

It's turning out that Biden isn't quite so despised as Republicans contend as Joe's popularity is leaving Trump's wallowing in the dust of his overused bronzing powder. If these trends were analogized into a Magic 8-Ball answer to the question is Kamala Harris going to be elected President(?), the answer - at this moment - most certainly would be "Signs point to yes".

Oh, and isn't this just like something Dark Brandon would orchestrate to defeat his archnemesis Donald Trump?

Yeah, everybody's happier since he announced retirement after his slack jawed debate performance. We'd be further ahead if the holdouts hadn't dragged their feet so badly when it was obvious it was time to change course.

People were glad to see him go. He was making a fool of himself daily.

I like the new mini Fisher Price office setup they have for him now.

#5 | Posted by lfthndthrds at 2024-09-06 01:21 PM

Don't be fooled. This was all a ploy for him to suddenly declare martial law and stay in office. Trump supporters used to be wise to obvious conspiracies like this, but they've really dropped the ball.

It's called doing the right thing...

btw...

We'd be further ahead if the holdouts hadn't dragged their feet so badly when it was obvious it was time to change course.

There is no way for you to know that. If he had dropped out at the beginning... we'd just be getting out of the debates and convention and who knows what kind of butt hurt figuring it out... like when Bernie got burned... and the hostility against Hillary at the convention... go back look at the tapes... Bernie sulking in the seats... then Bernie bots whining up until the night of the election voting against Clinton... out of spite...

Biden is still aware he's just slow and old. Honestly, I think the timing was brilliant.

FTR I've been beeching about the age of the contestants since 2016... wondering why the geezers were still at it... It was interesting Hillary's appearance at this convention made it clear that mentally she is sharper than hubby Bill, Biden, or Trumpanzee combined. The look and talk all worn out.

That's because the less he opened his mouth, the better he seemed by comparison.

#9 | Posted by e1g1 at 2024-09-06 02:20 PM

One more thing... Kamala has been a heartbeat away from the office for 4 years...Biden came out of retirement after his son died... Unlike Trumpanzee...he understands his own mortality... he also tested positive for Covid early in his term... she could've assumed office then had he gotten seriously ill.

Joe Biden is a very good president

By stepping down he became a great president

If Harris wins

Seems like Going Away is the best thing he could do.

#12 | Posted by organ_bank

It would work for your party too. But you're a cult so he can't.

I'll bet in 4 years if Biden is alive when the next Democrat Presidential convention takes place he will be there...unlike the republicl0wns who haven't had a former president attend their conventions... because they would be a "distraction"... for the last 5 cycles... true story

Biden's not going anywhere... unless his God calls him.

The last two republicl0wn presidents left office in disgrace... its a fact... republicl0wns are rotting from the inside... it's going to take at least 8 years to clean up the mess.

@#15 ... Trump is MIGA ...

Yeah, for starters, maybe stop with the obscure acronyms.

World Bank Group Guarantees simplify access to financial guarantees for development projects in emerging markets.

... the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the World Bank -- for efficiency, simplicity, and speed. ...

What else yer got?

I have no party. Trump is MIGA. Don't take my word for it though, he'll tell you himself.

#15 | Posted by organ_bank

Do you believe in democracy? Will use your voting power to help save it from authoritarians who attempted a coup?

--------. Biden spent a year wandering the stage and descending into mumbling. A year. The debate just shined a light on it that was undeniable and people couldn't write it off as Republican talking points anymore.

Most people think he resigned. He's back to being basement Biden

One of the best things he ever did was block a convicted felon and criminally negligent twice impeached insurrectionist loser from gaining access to the White House and destroying democracy.

I think his job approval rates have soared because he figured out what the most important part of his job is now.

Stepping aside and handing the torch to a new generation.

Biden did his part. And will leave an historic legacy behind protected and furthered by Kamala Harris. The first black woman president in American history.

Oh yes we can.

Because we are never going back.

"I have no party."

You spelled morals wrong.
