Desperate North Carolina MAGA Man Refuses FEMA Help Because Trump Lies

An emotional man blamed former President Donald Trump for his father-in-law's refusal to get help from FEMA due to conspiracy theories. A man identifying as Anthony called into the Dan Abrams Show on SiriusXM where he revealed that his father-in-law in Asheville, North Carolina, has refused help from FEMA and "it is actually breaking up our family." Anthony told Abrams that his wife's father believes FEMA is "going to take his house" if he accepts assistance following the damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

Anthony: My father-in-law lives just outside of Asheville, North Carolina, and he was badly damaged by Hurricane Helene. And he has refused all FEMA help because he's a hardcore Trumper. He literally believes that if he accepts anything from FEMA, they're going to take his house.

Dan Abrams: Wow.

Anthony: And my wife, my wife is - I mean, we're literally, I mean, we're at the point where, like, screw them. I mean, if they're going to listen to Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity over us who have his best interest at heart, or my wife, my poor wife is like, the hell with them. Screw them. And it sucks. It really sucks in and I don't understand how so many people are under the spell of this freaking con man. I don't understand it.

Dan, it's hard. It's hard to even imagine it. I mean, he lost almost everything, and he's refusing all help from the federal government and complaining to us that he doesn't have food, that he doesn't have the stuff he needs, and yet he won't accept the help. What the hell are we supposed to do? We're not in a position to be able to fly across the country and help him. There's people begging us to get him to accept help and he won't do it. And I guarantee you, I'm not the only one. I guarantee you I'm not the only one.

Abrams: I wish there was something I could say as to, you know, I don't know. Is there - does he have access to any electronics where you could send him some information debunking this and that?

Anthony: We've done all of that. We've done all of that. We've sent him, we've sent him all the FEMA bulletins. We've sent him all the stuff from the fact checkers. He doesn't believe it. He thinks it's all - he just believes Trump, literally, Dan. He just - it's a cult! He's a cult member. I'm sorry to say it. He's a cult member. And he's my father-in-law and it sucks.

Just a couple simple questions: Does anyone feel that the things Trump keeps saying - directly from his own mouth - are helping Americans trying to put their lives back together in the aftermath of catastrophic storms that have uprooted their lives? Who is being served by the things Trump says that aren't remotely true; suffering Americans or Donald Trump's electoral ambitions?

The ironic thing is that if he doesn't accept fema $ he won't be able to repair his home and the government will end up taking his home as a result

It's hard to find much sympathy for someone so willfully stupid as Anthony's father-in-law.

Don't forget that this man is terrified at being out of step with his equally MAGA neighbors. He knows what they would to him because he knows what he would do to them.

Well, he lives next to ROBSON. Or someone very like ROBSON.

When Hitler felt the walls closing in, he engineered the destruction of the German people.

Trump is killing his own people. Again. His first round was with COVID.

Yes. He knows it. He doesn't care. So long as he thinks it helps him stay out of jail. Sacrifices must be made for dear leader. If people die, they die. He doesn't give a ---- about anyone but himself.

Anyone who supports this trash is just as bad as him.

So what? Eff that idiot if he is too stupid to know how to think for himself!

The beautiful thing is that this man will continue to suffer and lose everything...and never learn. Every additional bad thing that happens because of his own stupidity will still be blamed on liberals.

@#10 ... The beautiful thing is that this man will continue to suffer and lose everything.. ...

I do not think it is a beautiful thing that someone may (will?) lose all he has because he listened to the adice of fmr Pres Trump and his supporters.

I think it is a very sad thing that fmr Pres Trump and his supporters abuse his base in such a manner.

Precisely. Thus the intractability and abuse of his family. He's scared to lose his cult, imo.

sigh... On one hand, I've seen hardcore Republicans most of my life. First in Nebraska, now in West Virginia.
And (outside of politics), many of them are nice people. Country folk. Down home and earnest. Many of them.
And part of me feels for them.

But on the other side, I've always been a Democrat, I was born (I think) to be a democrat. And I just don't understand
how people can be so against reason and logic.

Forget politics for a minute. Just use reason and logic and a little bit of legwork.
Google for facts and data about FEMA and if they have 'paid their bills' and if they are 'legit' and pay out
hundreds of millions, if not billions annually for disaster relief. And base your judgement on that data,
not what some 'conservative (or liberal) talk show entity says is true'.

But people have gotten lazy. People don't want to think anymore. They'd rather be spoon fed an ideology/mythology
to believe in.

So yeah. Part of me feels sorry for the guy. But a larger part of me is like "WTF Dude?! Its too much work for you to
do 10 minutes work of Google Searching on the data to try to determine the truth?" Maybe he deserves to lose his house...
I feel sorry for the man's kids/in laws. They have to put up w this ----- on a daily basis.

Perfect metaphor for trumpism.

#9 | Posted by e1g1

I disagree, he is totally thinking for himself and not taking orders from his son-in-law. The fact that few folks agree with his decision is inconvenient.
It's like when I see a guy riding a Harley wearing flip flops, a wife beater, and no helmet. I think,"good for you, you're much tougher than I am, and you're living your best life. Just don't co e crying to me when you F yourself up.
This dude is free to be an idiot.

This reminds me of a show I watched around 20 years ago-Wife Swap. The show basically switched the maternal figure between wildly disparate families, like a lesbian couple with a mormon family, that sort of thing. The mother figures would switch houses for a week or so and the show would document the experience. Some fun fish out of water stuff would happen. Everyone would learn a great lesson about tolerance of different people.

Well this one episode had a backwoods Louisiana woman who was VERY religious, switch with a family, I can't remember whether she switched with a wiccan family or an African American family or an atheist family-that is irrelevant.

She had a nice experience and her family did too. Both families were very respectful of the different faiths.

Well at the end of the episode she gets home and hears how her family liked the other mother and she flipped out and was saying she wouldn't accept the money (like $50K) for the show as it was satanic money.

It was very bizarre and sad. She had a nice experience with a different family who respected her beliefs even though they didn't agree. the mother who lived with her family was both treated with respect and acted respectfully to her family's beliefs.

But the simple fact that her family liked this woman was enough to set her off.

Just plain sad.

She ended up taking the money though.

Donald Trump to Vladimir Putin, "Mission Almost Accomplished":

Richard Stengel
@stengel
The Trump candidacy is not so much a political campaign as what intelligence services call an influence operation, a coordinated effort to use mis-and-disinformation to undermine democratic institutions and processes.

What Republicans seem to be forgetting ,,,

Disaster response is a team sport, not a political one.

The Country should be uniting to help the people affected by Helene and Milton.

Americans helping Americans.

Desperate North Carolina MAGA Man Refuses FEMA Help Because Trump Lies

I do think that the feds will have to place some restrictions on paying for repeated damages to the same property. Maybe a rule to the effect that the feds will pay for the damage on this lot/block but will not pay for subsequent damage UNLESS you upgrade you take appropriate steps to mitigate future damages IOW if you don't put your house on stilts and rebuild to sustain winds of a Cat ? hurricane, you will not get federal assistance for any future damages.

Also, the feds should require that flood plain maps and local building codes be updated so that new construction, repairs, etc. meet tougher standards.

Hard to say as she seemed like one of those sincere ignorant religious people. She was in tears crying about demons attacking her family. She was definitely one of those poor slobs that get taken advantage of by reality tv shows.

Lamplighter,

The problem is that I am not sure that MAGA really accept that the rest of us are also Americans. And their leaders seem more aligned to the goal of ending individual liberty for most people, because they are certain that they are correct in all things. Therefore, anyone who disagrees with them does so for evil reasons, and which makes the disagreeable enemies that must be dealt with by Dear Leader.

I feel sorry for those being deceived by the Trump cabal but at the same time, they are a danger to me and my family. That tempers my compassion.

The monster under the bed here is that increased frequency and damage associated with a more energetic atmosphere is eventually going to make areas uninhabitable because property insurance will be so costly that only those who can afford to rebuild on their own dime will be able to live there. That doesn't count the property lost to actual rising sea level and associated effects. Where are we going to put all of the people who are going to lose their homes over the next 50 - 100 years? How are we going to keep ourselves fed when growing zones shift frequently and rapidly? How long after their growing zones shift will it take for the starving nations to turn on those who still have food? We have been in a similar but less dire situation at the end of the Late Bronze Age, it didn't end well.

It will take a bunch of miracles to prevent the coming collapse and I am not sure that we have it in us.
