It's a shame the Hurricane didn't flush you out to sea.

Tourism = temporary migrants. No problem if they bring their credit cards and tickets home.

Let someone else pay the taxes, because we're too selfish to. --Florida

Typical tRump loving idiot. Trying to take credit for others accomplishments.

Karen, you had nothing positive to do with any kind tourism - except the weirdos with a fat granny urine fetish.

You should take credit for what you actually accomplished!

Looking forward to you getting exactly what you voted for.

With "all due respect" :)

That would mean the equivalent of 10% of the USA visited Florida. Somehow...I'm gonna call BS on that.

#6 | Posted by e1g1 at 2024-11-13 10:48 PM

I'm guessing a lot of that were Floridians leaving the state then returning in time to sell their property before the next round of hurricanes and homeowner insurance cancellations.

#7 | Posted by e1g1 at 2024-11-13 10:57 PM

+1.8% is "shattering"?

#8 | Posted by REDIAL at 2024-11-13 10:58 PM

before the next round of hurricanes and homeowner insurance cancellations.

Depression #19 is spooling up to the south, but we'll get to that next week.

It's going to be in the upper 50's tomorrow night up here in Horse Country.

But yeah, prolly rain for the weekend or so.

Never been to Florida. I'd like to check out KSC but giant big-mouthed lizards creep me out.

Impossible.

I was told the economy is terrible and everyone is broke.

Funny how she left out this part of the headline...Gov. DeSantis says

Absolutely astounding to me how quickly the right went from distrusting anything the Government does to blindly following along with whatever they say.

Well gosh...

Maybe it depends who is in charge?

Lying Trump and Lying Bush shouldn't be trusted.

Someone should check on Karen...

Sounds like maybe she's been left alone in her crappy condo with no help.

So sad...no one to wipe her butt and make sure she takes her meds.

Picture it if you dare.

#14 | Posted by gracieamazed

I know very well how they work. The 60 character limit makes you keep the relevant info and lose the chaf. What you kept and what you eliminated says volumes.
The thing is, the left really doesn't blindly follow. If they did, they'd still be supporting Musk. They demand proof and results, which they usually get.
You folks however slavishly swallow whatever they feed you. DJT is the perfect example. In his first term he didn't deliver on any of his promises and since then has been proven weak and incompetent over and over, yet you rallied around him like his last term was a golden age.

I know vacation appreciation is highly subjective, but why Florida? I sort understand going to see the mouse...sorta...but other than that, what is there?

I could understand people from Alabama or Georgia driving in, but 74% arrived by air, which suggests that they are not coming from a neighboring state.

#20 | Posted by madbomber at 2024-11-15 12:28 PM

@#20 ... I sort understand going to see the mouse...sorta...but other than that, what is there? ...

Around here (Connecticut) most of the people I have talked with, who went to Florida for vacation, had one destination in mind: Disney.

That was the reason they gave for the trip.

Also some of the worst Gov by Bribes.

"I know vacation appreciation is highly subjective, but why Florida? I sort understand going to see the mouse...sorta...but other than that, what is there? "

I'd like to see what percentage of tourism is the Orlando area, and what are others. Miami and the Keys are certainly great draws, but I'd bet over half is Disney-related.

#28 | Posted by Danforth at 2024-11-15 01:43 PM

so all those hollywood elitist word reading prix.....who still say they're gonna leave the country...]]but

somehow keep showing up here...

have a nice weekend....all of you...

@#28 ... I'd like to see what percentage of tourism is the Orlando area, and what are others. Miami and the Keys are certainly great draws, but I'd bet over half is Disney-related. ....

For tourism, I'd say probably closer to two-thirds Disney.

For non-tourism ("vacations), yeah, Miami and the Keys are certainly a draw.

My definitions...

tourism - going to a destination looking for a specific experience.

vacation - going to a place to be somewhere else.

#31 | Posted by LampLighter at 2024-11-15 07:41 PM

Any time of the year, more than half the license plates on Florida highways are from out of state, and half of them are from Canada. ( I know, we used to count them) Lots of snowbirds in all parts of Florida, not just Orlando, Miami and the Keys. British and other high latitude European tourists flock to Florida beaches on both coasts.

Many choose lower cost of living and warm weather over social justice and politics. It is every man for himself.

#32 | Posted by Miranda7 at 2024-11-15 08:32 PM

@#32 ... Any time of the year, more than half the license plates on Florida highways are from out of state, and half of them are from Canada. ... Many choose lower cost of living and warm weather ...

So, visitors, not those who are concerned about the lower cost of living.

And, if I may ask, which Florida highways have all those out of state plates? Does it vary by the time of the year?

I once visited a family member who lived in Florida in late July.

Wow, the "warm weather" was not a pleasant experience for me.

#33 | Posted by LampLighter at 2024-11-15 08:43 PM

more than half the license plates on Florida highways are from out of state, and half of them are from Canada.

There are two million Canadian vehicles in Florida? That's kinda surprising.

#34 | Posted by REDIAL at 2024-11-15 08:51 PM

@#34 ... here are two million Canadian vehicles in Florida? .. . ?

There's this...

What Canadians with homes in Florida need to know as Hurricane Milton bears down (October 2024)
financialpost.com

... Second massive storm in so many weeks raises critical questions about protecting real estate investments

As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida, the second Category 4 storm to hit the Gulf Coast in two weeks, many Canadians are grappling with uncertainty. More than half a million own homes in the Sunshine State, making them the top foreign buyers of property there. The impending storm raises critical questions about protecting real estate investments in the face of natural disasters. The Financial Post's Shanta Campbell explores an increasingly complex foreign ownership landscape. ...

#35 | Posted by LampLighter at 2024-11-15 09:17 PM

#33 excuse my lack of specificity, but I dint want to go too deep. Yes, it does vary by time of year, and I won't specify which highways because that would give away my location. I would wager it is most of them. Lots of Canadian vehicles on our roads, particularly RV's

As far as cost of living, I was referring to those who relocate here from other places. As a friend of mine says, "the only thing worse than the bugs down here is a Yankee with a u-haul"

#36 | Posted by Miranda7 at 2024-11-15 10:05 PM

And yes, July is miserable in Florida. December is wonderful

#37 | Posted by Miranda7 at 2024-11-15 10:10 PM

@#36 ... Yes, it does vary by time of year, and I won't specify which highways because that would give away my location. I would wager it is most of them. Lots of Canadian vehicles on our roads, particularly RV's ...

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I can understand (and agree with) your distaste with giving away your location. Such is the world MAGA has given us.

... As far as cost of living, I was referring to those who relocate here from other places. ...

So you agree, visitors, not those who are concerned about the cost of living.

@#37 ...And yes, July is miserable in Florida. December is wonderful ...

So, you agree that snowbirds are correct in their winter migration to Florida.

But those who decide to live there seem to be just reversing the misery of the seasons, from winter to summer?

"Some of the best beaches in the world is what there is."

In Florida???

You've clearly never seen the rest of the world.

I have.

I will say that the best beaches in the US, again highly subjective, are situated around Destin. But compared to the rest of the world those beaches maybe hit the 5/10 mark at best.

There are some really cool coastlines in the PNW and NE, but you're not probably going to swim there. Same with Michigan.

FTR, the best beaches I have ever seen are in Albania. Which is why I am going to plant the flag there.

#39 | Posted by madbomber at 2024-11-16 03:50 AM

^I should have stated "Continental US." The beaches in Hawaii and Guam are obviously far better than those in Florida.
