Guardian no Longer Posting on X

We wanted to let readers know that we will no longer post on any official Guardian editorial accounts on the social media site X (formerly Twitter). We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives and that resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere.

imo, the first of a trend.

Yep. I still have an account there but only to monitor all the crazies, who will have only each other to troll eventually. Musk has ruined what had been the most robust breaking news aggregator and global chatroom around.

See ya...

When is the retort going to follow suit?

#4 | Posted by TFDNihilist at 2024-11-13 03:58 PM

I'm not a big fan of most social media of any kind... except here in the Yella' Dawg Jungle, where there are people I've read for, er, decades almost, and whose opinions, experiences, and thoughts on different subjects is like a mostly sane, but diverse, family, sorta.

Of course, there are muttonheads in families, too, so...

After FB mistakenly deleted my account like 10 years ago, and then refused to let me have another, ever, no matter how many hoops I jumped through, I just followed a few family, friends, and such on IG and a little Twitter.

Never even wanted an X account, and now I'm adding Musk to the list of people like Rush Limbaugh and Rupert Murdoch, who Walter Cronkite would have personally shot on 5th Ave.

Head for bluesky and let twitter be a placed filled with bots and liars.

#6 | Posted by Tor at 2024-11-13 04:15 PM

I only keep a TwitX account to read. Never to post.

#7 | Posted by Whatsleft at 2024-11-13 04:18 PM

As long as you have an account on X you support Musk. Weird.

I don't post to general social media. I do post here... It's amazing more haven't followed suit. A general boycott of the platform by media would certainly drop revenue in a massive way for the company as well. I get why and why not people may choose to stay but time to end walk away after the owner repeatedly attacks not only the truth but the same organizations so much of the company's revenue relies on.

No. Active accounts support him. I haven't logged in personally in at least a year. Clicks and views support him. I actually block Twitter from displaying in the media I consume now. I was never a big twitter fan and with it being bought and not caring for ownership I quit. Matter of fact though, I will go erase it.

#10 Thank you. I will take your word for it. It would seem to me the total number of accounts is what matters. Look at the STATS page here. There are dormant accounts (1+ years no activity), accounts set up and never used, dead people, etc. If that page was purged to just people that participated it would be a much shorter list. Congrats for deleting your X account, others are not as strong as you are and will continue to copy Tweets on this site. Weird.

It seems to be you're just another ignorant MAGAT ----.

Ad revenue for the DR is not based on the number of accounts (i.e., the STATS page) but on the number of users logging in who then view and click on ads.

#14 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2024-11-13 06:06 PM

#14 Except you see ads even if not logged in, I just checked. So why keep all those accounts on the STATS page if quantity does equate to revenue?

So why keep all those accounts on the STATS page if quantity does equate to revenue?

Perhaps someone just doesn't feel like doing it?

Just proving RSTY wrong, again.

#17 | Posted by gracieamazed at 2024-11-13 06:33 PM

You prove nothing, you stupid ----

#18 | Posted by LegallyYourDead at 2024-11-13 06:51 PM

#18 But just another intelligent post. Legally, you are someone that was responsible for Trump's victory. People wanted to do anything that was different than what you did. Congrats!
