Trump's Pick to Lead Federal Housing Agency Has Opposed Efforts to Aid the Poor

As Donald Trump's nominee to run the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Scott Turner may soon oversee the nation's efforts to build affordable apartments, protect poor tenants and aid the homeless. As a lawmaker in the Texas House of Representatives, Turner voted against those very initiatives.

Trump HUD pick Scott Turner: •Supported a bill ensuring landlords could refuse apartments to applicants who'd received federal housing assistance •Opposed a bill to expand affordable rental housing •Voted against two bills that called merely to study homelessness among young people and veterans.

After four years of Democrats and the media (I know they are the same thing) bragging about the economy how is it possible for anyone to still be poor?

#2 | Posted by visitor_ at 2024-12-23 10:11 AM

When you hold office as an elected official, you're supposed to represent your constituents. It's impossible to believe in everything your constituents actually want....your job is to represent them.

It doesn't mean you agree with everything you voted for.

just sayin....

"It doesn't mean you agree with everything you voted for."

It also doen't mean you should be against everything your constituents might need one day. Read a local story a few days ago about a young woman working fo a company here for several years who has MS and goes foe twice yearly infusion treatments that require an 8 day recovery period which she uaed hef accumulated vacation days for so that she didn't need to miss work on scheduled work days. So her lovely just unexpectedly decided not to put her back on the schedule so now she is unemployed but can't claim unemployment because according to her employer she is still employed but without any scheduled wordays. Trump would probably appoint him to be Sec. of Labor!

It didn't happen. And as far as the media goes, they were mostly agreeing with the imagined hardships described by the MAGA party. While for the last year or so the economy has actually been pretty good. But I'm sure you're going to argue that you've been paying too much for eggs.

But does he have the important qualifications? Has he ever sexually assaulted anyone?

Danni, the employer doesn't get to make that determination. If your 'friend' is real, and not a made up meme on bluesky, they can dispute that ruling before an arbitrator. People that are temporarily laid off or have reduced hours can get unemployment insurance payments.

Okiehomie is a national leader in substandard housing. Our Gov. Brownshoes wants the Sooner or Later State to be a top ten state, and his lack of leadership has caused many to live in shacks, hovels and homes damaged by fracking earthquakes. Glad to see that MAGA voters here are getting the government they deserve, if not the one they expect ...

#9,

Maybe people in your state need to start taking care of themselves and not waiting on the government to hand out other citizens money.

He got the Ben Carson job.

You know, the Black job.

Good for Trump for getting a token Black in his administration.

Yeah. We know how YOU would treat the poor. You have made it very clear. You would treat them like a good Christian Soldier would. You would tell them to buck up and start taking care of themselves and stop bothering you ... you don't have problems so why should they? After all that's exactly what Jesus would tell them.

I can just hear Him now ... "And yeah verily I say unto you ... Stop bothering Me and get a job you lazy bums!"

Now do the rich! When the time comes and Trumpy pushes Congress for a trillion dollar tax giveaway to his wealthy friends will you stand up and tell them to stop taking other citizens money??

Yeah. I know. Not likely.

#13 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-12-23 01:44 PM

We know how YOU would treat the poor.

So I guess you know how much I gave to charity?

You think the federal government is a charity, but it's not.

#14 | Posted by boaz at 2024-12-23 02:17 PM

Rwingers are still pissed off about public sidewalks, roads, parks, libraries, Fire, Police, and EMT, much less 'taking other citizens money' for things like housing and health care.

It appears that, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.", aka the Golden Rule, is somehow only applicable to individuals, but not to the societies that individuals form and decide they will as a whole help the poor and downtrodden.

Which is a spectacularly narrow and self-serving reading of what was presented as a general attitude towards other people, including one's fellow citizens.

YOU think that I think the federal government is a charity.

The money collected through taxes to create programs that help people, like social security is NOT charity.

The constitution grants Congress the power to "provide for the common defense and general welfare" of the people.

Is providing defense also a "charity"?

Can't you defend yourself? What's that? You can't? You need a powerful military? Paid for by others?

You lazy leech!

#16 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-12-23 02:33 PM

"So I guess you know how much I gave to charity?"

From your own words I know how much you love your neighbors.

You only love them if they believe and act exactly as you do.

Jesus taught that the two greatest commandments are to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself.

You may have dropped some money in the offering plate but you do NOT love your neighbors in your heart as you love yourself.

And if you do NOT love your neighbors as you love yourself then you do NOT love God. For they, just like you, are of God. (Assuming that there is a God of course)

You're really this stupid, aren't you?

No wonder Republicans want your votes. You support the rich getting subsidies from the government in the billions

But cry like a bitch about poor people getting assistance from the government in order to survive

No man is an island, we're a society, we need to take care of one another.

You're a garbage piece of shit.

#18 | Posted by ClownShack at 2024-12-23 02:42 PM

I love bitching about the poor. I view it as a right just like bitching about election results because I vote. I contribute a fair amount to charities just so I can bitch about their mission.
