Hertz Continues EV Purge, Asks Renters If They Want to Buy

Apparently Hertz's purging of electric vehicles from its fleet isn't going fast enough for the car rental giant. A Reddit user posted an offer they received from Hertz to buy the 2023 Tesla Model 3 they had been renting for $17,913.

More from the article...

... Hertz originally went strong into EVs, announcing a plan to buy 100,000 Model 3s for its fleet by the end of 2021, but 16 months later had acquired only half that amount.

The company found that repair costs -- especially for Teslas, which averaged 20 percent more than other EVs -- were cutting into its profit margins.

Customer demand was also not what Hertz had hoped for; last January, it announced plans to sell off 20,000 EVs.

Asking its customers if they want to purchase their rentals isn't a new strategy for Hertz. "By connecting our rental customers who opt into our emails to our sales channels, we're not only building awareness of the fact that we sell arsenal but also offering a unique opportunity to someone who may be in the market for the same car they have on rent," Hertz communications director Jamie Line told The Verge. ...

Hertz was dumb to buy them in the first place. At least they had the sense to reverse this failing course.

So which is it? You righties all seem to think Elmo is a freaking genius, yet you hate electric cars.

EVs are a terrible rental option. Unless you're into walking to wherever you need to go.

And don't get me started on Hertz. Pretty much every time I land at Harry McCarran, I end up having to cancel my Hertz reservation because they don't have any cars.

I've never liked EV's.

The left used to love Musk until he bought Twitter and ended the censorship regime of conservative voices. Yet they still love EV's not made by Tesla.

ended the censorship regime

He didn't end anything. He just switched the polarity.

Musk posted what he called "a reminder" on X. He wrote that the site's algorithm automatically reduces the reach of a user if they're frequently blocked or muted by other, credible users. "If far more credible, verified subscriber accounts (not bots) mute/block your account compared to those who like your posts, your reach will decline significantly," Musk posted.
Sounds like an automated echo chamber.

Musk's idea of free speech - anyone can say whatever they want, but musk decides who everyone gets to hear.

It's not perfect but it's by far the most open social media platform out there right now. And it's why a segment of the left despises Musk

Hatred and threats of violence?

The left does not like him because he claims to be a free speech advocate then flaunts and abuses and randomly violates his own supposed moderation rules.

Europe doesn't like him because he violated the Digital Services Act and failed to curb the spread of illegal content. For months.

That is exactly it. Plus teslas are garbage. They had to recall 200,000 self driving cars. That was ALL of them.

#21 | Posted by Alexandrite at 2024-12-29 11:29 PM

I've never been a fan of Tesla or any EV. The left hatred of Musk has nothing to do with cars. Making Twitter a more open and much less censorious platform is why the left hates Musk.

So, is it "the left" or "a segment of the left?"

Maybe, for starters, I'd suggest your current alias tries to proffer the same opinion across messages in a thread?

fwiw.

A recall isn't the signifier of a garbage car build. It starts with the panel gaps.
