CNN Poll: Democratic Party’s favorability at record low

The Democratic Party's favorability rating among Americans stands at a record low, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, fueled in part by dimming views from its own frustrated supporters. With many in the party saying publicly that their leaders should do more to stand up to President Donald Trump, Democrats and Democratic-aligned independents say, 57% to 42%, that Democrats should mainly work to stop the Republican agenda, rather than working with the GOP majority to get some Democratic ideas into legislation. The survey was taken March 6-9, days before 10 Democratic senators " including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer " voted with Republicans in the chamber to advance a GOP-authored spending bill to avert a government shutdown, much to the chagrin of many other Democratic lawmakers and progressive critics.

The majority's desire to fight the GOP marks a significant change in the party's posture from the start of Trump's first term. A September 2017 poll found a broad 74% majority of Democrats and Democratic leaners saying their party should work with Republicans in an attempt to advance their own priorities, and just 23% advocating for a more combative approach.

As do a lot of people who voted for Trump.... like the ones who are paying more, losing money and jobs, and watching as their kids and parents lose services.... so that billionaires can have more tax cuts.

At least we know now what side the Cultists are on. Whatever side Dear Leader tells them to be on.

For instance, if they had not helped pass the spending bill, Trump would have used it as the basis to be even more draconian with government cuts. Maybe even lay the groundwork to cancel midterms in two years.

There's no limit to what norms Trump will violate because the GOP is too afraid to stop him.

Chickens have come home to roost for all those Dems/libs who decided to stay at home/vote Green during elections in November.

Go ahead and say the quiet part out loud. They're in this predicament because of the garbage agenda they decided to heap on average Americans. I would like to believe the Democrats "misread" Americans, but that isn't the case. They tried to shove that agenda on people - the real reason they are in the twenty percentile range of popularity.

Partially, since that motivated many anti-dems to vote. But it was mostly inflation, as was mentioned here multiple times. And that was a global issue and not one that Dems could do very much about short of destroying the national economy and tossing millions out of work (like Trump appears to be doing right now, since he doesn't give two sheets how the poor middle class are hurt).

If I was surveyed, I wouldn't have much favorable to say about Democrats right now. They seem to be a rudderless ship, with no message other than 'Trump sucks' and not doing nearly enough to stop the MAGA agenda. They have nobody with nationwide appeal. But I have never - and will never - vote for a Republican.

I know it was important to some states, and the article mentions it.

Guess I can't really blame the Dems too much for it since the GOP tanked the border bill on Trump's orders in order to hurt the Dems. And American voters fell for it.

Sure, you can always find a peg to hang your hat on. Only reason it failed to pass, though, was because that's what Trump demanded of the GOP. Because he wanted to hurt the Dems with immigration.

Dems need to understand that a major part of their appeal is that they are NOT republicans. Of course they will lose support if there is not a lot of daylight between them and republicans.

It's never an easy task to keep democrats happy.

You have the puritans who stomp their feet and put their fingers in their ears if they aren't getting what they want.

Then there are the moderates who are turned off by the puritans.

Then we move onto to the mainstream democrats, many of whom are democrats because they have higher expectations than most others. Doesn't mean they'll defect when they see failure but they simply have expectations.

I still think the democratic party is still in shock over the presidential election. It's still hitting them hard...and when democrats in congress concede any ground to the GOP on anything, it's just salt in an open wound.

IOW, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over this.

The GOP doesn't have these same challenges. Their voters have different expectations.

It appears that some Dems want to create a big enough ruckus that it will give Trump cover to declare martial law. And Trump will have no compunctions about doing so.

Then those same Dems will cry at the inevitable results and vote Green in 2028, because PaLEstiNe wiLl be fReE!! or some equally absurd nonsense. All while watching our nation burn and the GOP will waltz into the White House again...

We went from all-time record high numbers of illegal crossings under Biden.

With the absence of that border bill we are near or at all-time record low for illegal border crossings. Again, this is being achieved without that horrible bill (which would have been DOA in the House)

Don't know if it would have been DOA in the House, since the GOP stopped it.

As for the drop, the jury is still out on that. No doubt, though, that Trump's threats have had an impact.

But Trump is definitely doing a better job tooting his own horn. And our economy is in the crapper (at Trump's behest), so maybe folks are in less of a rush to pony up $4 - 10K to coyotes to come here and be unemployed.
