What Powers Does Trump Have to Send Troops to Cities

It is the first time since 1965 that a president called National Guard troops to respond to civil unrest without a governor's official request for assistance, according to Elizabeth Goitein, the senior director of the Brennan Center's Liberty and National Security Program.

Didn't seem to have the power to use troops to defend the Capital of the United States; that should answer thw question about whether or not he needs a Governor's approval to deal with relativelt peaceful protests in LA. Trump is using National Guard troops to create the most violent confrontation he can engineer because he's looking for an excuse to declare Marshall law and a military coup with him, of course, President for life, which I must admit, I don't pray at night for it to be long.

"Here is the take of an experienced former prosecutor:"

You're joking, right?

"...rioting, arson, and potentially lethal attacks on law enforcement agents in California. Those, however, are muted by the left's longstanding endorsement of political violence and illegal immigration."

Neither side "endorses" political violence, nor "illegal immigration".

I see now where you get your cockamamie ideas: from partisan hacks who'll barf ANYTHING, and know you'll carry water, regardless.

Interesting point DellBinger

FTA:
You can't prattle on about the "rule of law" while endorsing "sanctuary cities" " designed as sanctuaries from the rule of law. Pick a side.

Sanctuary CITIES are LEGAL.

"..rioting, arson, and potentially lethal attacks on law enforcement agents in California. Those, however, are muted by the left's longstanding endorsement of political violence and illegal immigration."

The insurrection in the Capital and the associated hunts for Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi with the spoken intentions by the insurrectionists to kill them happened and forever changed the definition of political violence from an angry protester throwing a rock to an actual attenpt to overthrow the government and Trumo dealt with it by watching TV in the dining room of the White House while ignoring multiple requests that he call out the National Guard which he just ignored. Now with relatively minor crimes ov violence being successfully dealt with bu local police who have not asked for National Guard back-up, Trump does everything he can to escalate the violence because that will give him an excuse to declare Marshall Law and begin rounding up troublemakers like journalists, politicians ans everyone else that dares to challenge the legitimacy of his dictatorial powers. The only people he's fooling now are people who don't pay attention to what's going on and his MAGA followers who are fine eliminating the Constitition and the rule of law.

#8 | Posted by Effeteposer

Of course they are if you don't care about federal laws.

No one says you have to cooperate to make the country safer.

That's why it's lawless.

Broken record. Trump 27/7/365

People have agency, if they didn't react by your own definition Trump couldn't escalate.

Saying sanctuary cities are legal, is like saying Federal Law doesn't exist within individual states. Our country has an international border and it is the DUTY of our military to protect it. Not protecting that established border and leaving it open to whomever wishes to cross it means you have no sovereignty as a nation. Ultimately it means you have no country - but I guess the John Lennon crowd loves the thought of that.

What happened on the 27th of July in the year 365?

Um.... how many of those occurred after the State Gov specifically asked the troops not be sent because they were not needed and would encourage the protestors?

Almost every example was caused by initial government stupidity and/or racism...

Also NONE were for mostly small peaceful protests like in LA.

QUITE the admission there.

I would have assumed it's happened more than that. Further, I expected there to have been more instances of governors and presidents not being on the same page with the governor telling the president to back off and let the state handle it.

Trump is doing this because it's a blue state and he wants to rub ---- in their face.

I'm not saying that isn't collateral damage, but this originally started to protect Federal workers and Federal buildings.

Saying ICE isn't welcome in your state is like saying the FBI or DHS isn't welcome.
