President Donald Trump's decision to shutter a long-running worldwide wheat aid program has left farmers in Kansas reeling, The New York Times reported on Monday.

Paul Penner, a Kansas farmer, told The Times he is losing patience with Kansas' GOP representatives for not doing more to tell the public about the damage to his state's economy from the Trump administration: "We need people who are willing to speak up. I think privately they say things, but publicly, no. And I'm not sure what their pain threshold is."

It sucks. I agree with Mr. Penner. They should be willing to openly criticize these policies.

Farmers are also being hit with huge increases in the price of fertilizer thanks to tariffs on Canada, where the vast majority is imported from.

Builders are watching the price of lumber (2x4s, 2x6) rise much, much higher. Also primarily imported from Canada.

These tariffs are gonna hurt a whole lot of people. All of us will be paying more for everything in most segments of our economy.

On 5 Nov 2024, 67% of eligible voters from Kansas went to the polls. Of those 1,303,655 Jayhawks, 57% of them voted for Dummkopf Trumpf; 41% opted for Kamala Harris.

I would assume they expected the state to go to Lewzer so they didn't bother. Only one Democrat has won Kansas since WW2.

Having said that, isn't 33% about standard for people that do not vote?

In the 2020 US elections, 66% of eligible Kansans voted. 56.14% opted for the Dotard; 41.51% chose Joe Biden, so the ratio is about the same between 2020 and 2024. Imagine if this 33% of Kansans who stayed home on 5 Nov 2024 are the farmers suffering the hardest from Trumpf's debilitating economic policies?

As someone in this thread pointed out earlier, Jayhawks are now in the second stage of the two-part FAFO equation. Just wait until the SNAP and Medicaid benefits expire next year, forcing rural hospitals to close down.

#15: The numbers I cited were for Kansas only; I didn't go through each state, but you are probably right. Roughly 1/3 of American voters are apathetic. BTW: The average eligible voter turnout for Canada's general elections since 1867 has been 70.5%, so Canadian voters are only slightly less apathetic than their southern neighbors. I have so little patience and sympathy for these farmers. Trump did this kind of --- during his first admin and they were happy for us to bail them out. It's no surprise Trump supercharged these actions during his second admin. FAFO.

I don't understand why they are so surprised that they are getting what they voted for. Most of these farmers voted to be destroyed by him. He told you all this before you voted him in office.
