The findings add to ongoing debates about how to better communicate to the public the threats of extreme weather events and the ways that climate change can multiply them.

There must be some physical limit to how high a wind speed can be.

Five storms since 1980 were over 192.

You always have an interesting question, a dry witty remark, or something pleasantly amusing to say. That was a good example. I found this:

"The most powerful tornado to ever hit Missouri was the EF5 Tri-State Tornado, a twister that had winds of more than 300 mph/480 kph. This tornado originally struck Missouri, but it also tore through parts of Illinois and Indiana.May 11, 2023"

However there is the theoretical Hypercane. Over 500 mph/800 kph.

Or so the googles say...

...theoretical Hypercane. Over 500 mph/800 kph.

They would for sure have to nuke that one. :-)

That is terrifying. I had a tornado come through my property. I was in the tub under mattress with my kids listening to the TV when I heard the weatherman report that it had been spotted in my area, but there was nothing to worry about because "Nobody lives out there". Not many people lived out there, but none of those that did ever watched that channel ever again. It was just a little tiny tornado but it shredded a shed and an oak tree. tree.

Nuke the storm. Problem solved.

Tornados are terrifying. Glad you and your kids were all OK and the damage was limited. I lived in DFW for years and went through several of them - including the one big one that hit Ft. Worth in 2000.

I was born and raised in Florida, and I was used to hurricanes. I'm back in Florida, and I prefer this to tornados. At least I used to. I guess I still do because they don't typically sneak up on you, but damn, they aren't like they used to be. The idea of this becoming regular and even worse is hard to accept.

Florida tornadoes mostly form in the stretch from Tampa to Fort Myers. I grew up in Tampa, so you get a taste of both.

I've been hit by 6 hurricanes and I think I prefer those also.

My little tornado was in Florida. I'd say we get a few spotted each year, either starting as water spouts and coming ashore, or spinning out of a Hurricane. We've had damage twice, and both times it cut a skinny path about 5 feet wide for a half mile or wide. launched a port-a-let, shredding it annd raining ---- and plastic over a couple acres.

This reeks of media influence in the field of Meteorology... How do we up viewership for the news??? hmm... Named winter storms!!!. Hmmm that's not working, not scary enough... what about, wait, Category SIX hurricanes. We'll have people fear binge watching the news!!!

One reason I'm happy to be out of that field. It's not really about accuracy but viewers.
