Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

England's National Health Service has banned the use of puberty blockers for the treatment of gender dysphoria or gender incongruence in transgender minors. The NHS has not stated it will restrict puberty blockers for non-transgender children and young people. An NHS spokesperson told ABC News the agency hopes to have a study into the use of puberty blockers in place by December of this year, with eligibility criteria yet to be decided. The agency said it made the move after considering an evidence review conducted by England's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. "We have concluded that there is not enough evidence to support the safety or clinical effectiveness of puberty suppressing hormones to make the treatment routinely available at this time," an NHS spokesperson told ABC News in a statement

But it's cool. It'll probably be buried on the back page anyway.

And the unfortunate knee jerk reaction the other way.

I said all along that blindly affirming every kid who saw a tick tock that said do you feel like you don't fit in you might be in the wrong body would come back to bite those actually suffering dysphoria in the ass.

Since the pendulum swung to far and was cheered on as it did, now it's going too far the other way with a blanket ban.

You'd think that adults could adult and do what's right but instead we rushed kids onto blockers and surgery, and then over correct with not treating those who actually need it to protect those that are being abused by the system.

smh

Remember when jeffyjbell was apocalyptic over the idea of government inserting itself between a patient and physician

You know, because "conservative values" or whatever

Now take a peek at this shameless, ambulance chasing political opportunist

No convictions, no morals and no scruples. Just his stupid politics of the day

Lotta truth to that.

And not surprisingly that basic pattern is why draconian laws get passed.

Major medical associations in the United States, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and others agree that gender-affirming care is safe, effective, beneficial and medically necessary.

So the people that actually know aren't relevant and are dismissed.i>

Studies show transgender youth are more likely to experience anxiety, depressed moods, and suicidal ideation and attempts, often due to gender-related discrimination and gender dysphoria.

A real problem that causes suicide, death, depression, and low self-esteem. If only there was something that could be done. Wait - what's this?

Some studies, including research from the Pediatrics and LGBT Health journals, have shown that gender dysphoria and social motivation improved significantly with puberty blockers, and self-harm and suicidality decreased.

Indeed they do, and it's not a one-off or cherry picked nonsense. It's exactly why AAP, AMA and AACAP all agree on the use of hormone blockers. As the article lays out.

All this over less than 100 children in the UK, for a procedure that is reversible. How truly sad is that that the government is getting in between parents, their children and the doctors that care for them

American College of Pediatrics ... .

There is not a single long-term study to demonstrate the safety or efficacy of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for transgender-believing youth. This means that youth transition is experimental, and therefore, parents cannot provide informed consent, nor can minors provide assent for these interventions. Moreover, the best long-term evidence we have among adults shows that medical intervention fails to reduce suicide.

Puberty blockers may actually cause depression and other emotional disturbances related to suicide. In fact, the package insert for Lupron, the number one prescribed puberty blocker in America, lists "emotional instability" as a side effect and warns prescribers to "Monitor for development or worsening of psychiatric symptoms during treatment." Similarly, discussing an experimental trial of puberty blockers in the U.K., Oxford University Professor Michael Biggs wrote, "There was no statistically significant difference in psychosocial functioning between the group given blockers and the group given only psychological support. In addition, there is unpublished evidence that after a year on [puberty blockers] children reported greater self-harm, and the girls also experienced more behavioral and emotional problems and expressed greater dissatisfaction with their body"so puberty blockers exacerbated gender dysphoria."

These pediatrics seem to think other wise.

The American College of Pediatricians is a socially conservative advocacy group of pediatricians and other healthcare professionals in the United States, founded in 2002. The group's primary focus is advocating against abortion rights and against rights for gay, queer, and transgender people.
That's surprising.

I wonder if One knew that and posted anyway to propagate lies, or if the poster was fooled by that groups intentional dishonesty?

The American College of Pediatricians is a sham group, like America's Frontline Doctors. Political groups created with names to fool people and to lie for political gain by the right-wing. Ladapo's a member of the "demon sperm" America's Frontline Doctors group.

BTW, Oneironaut, if your position has to be propped up by liars and frauds you don't have much of a position. I recommend re-examining your premise.

"gender confused children revert to their actual sex"

Children are changing sex?
You're the one who is confused.

He's stuck on gender=sex, no matter what.
He also doesn't seem to understand why blockers are used.

"He's stuck on gender=sex, no matter what."

And yet, our official documents (passport, driver's license, birth certificate) all list "Sex", not "Gender". So who's conflating the two?

"He also doesn't seem to understand why blockers are used."

Aliens. Obviously.

travel.state.gov

There is a lot of legacy crap in our laws and forms, for instance the U.S. Constitution where "he" is used repeatedly. I'm assuming you don't believe that women can't be Senators, or the President, or a Representative, or a land owner? Coverture laws were just made (mostly)null in the 90's IIRC.

For our passports the choice of M/F/X is used under the heading "sex". Are you saying "X" is a sex, like M or F, now?

Interesting.
