Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

US President Joe Biden has unveiled a sweeping proposal to reform the Supreme Court, calling on lawmakers to establish term limits and form an ethics code "to restore trust and accountability" on its nine justices. The conservative-leaning court has become a political battlefield in recent years, with its nine justices - unelected and able to serve for life - playing a powerful role in American life on everything from abortions to the environment.

Enforceable ethics rules would be a fantastic start.

Lumpy Thomas was paid MILLIONS of bribes by people with business he RULED on.

You cannot get more corrupt than that.

Just another day for the GOP.

We can add the $2 billion bailout Kushner got from the Saudis (and attempts to install private communications with the Russian Embassy), Trump DC Hotel, etc etc to the list

Great idea. Now let's hope he can get this idea to
pass. I'm sure it will be met with uniform stiff opposition
from all of the GOP.

Today's republicans view ethics as an obstacle.

It won't see the light of day in the GQP house.

Definitely fillibustered in the Senate by Mike Lee or Tommy Tumblevile.

For many years prior to now, Dems have been lauding the SCOTUS as being so important and crucial and doing a good job. Look it up. It's all on record. Biden is on record saying a lot of great things about the SCOTUS. Obama, Hillary, etc. are all on record. But, right on queue, as soon as the SCOTUS rules in a way they don't like, all of a sudden they are a scourge to our country and the whole system must be changed. This isn't conjecture. This is exactly what is happening. Reps are guilty of it too, of course, except they haven't tried to dismantle and rebuild the system anew, they just did the same old tactic of getting people in the court they want like Dems do. Dems just took it to a higher level, all because their fragile wittle egos got hurt.

"Today's republicans view ethics as an obstacle."

And this is another reason why America can't ever improve. Dems are COMPLETELY ignoring the ethical problems that will occur if Biden's new system gets put in place. Reps are just bringing up all of the negatives of it, and Dems are completely ignoring them. This has been my biggest issue with both parties and I've said it here many times. Both sides bring up new changes and refuse to ever consider those changes may have negatives. But, the other side instantly brings up the negatives and the party still ignores them. That's what Dems are doing. So, by saying ethics are an obstacle, YOU are the one illustrating that Dems don't care about ethics either or they wouldn't be ignoring the problems Biden's changes will bring. At least acknowledge them and come up with things that will soften their blow or remove them, don't just ignore them because they are bad for your cause.

I'm not sure why he bothered. Sure, we need all of this. But it's not going to happen, not any time soon.

I'd have gone with a mandatory retirement age of 75 instead of 18 year terms. But hey, if we're rewriting the constitution, every part of our federal government needs to be reformed. Term limits all around, an end to gerrymandering, districting the senate instead of election by state, replacing the president with a 10 person directly elected executive committee with staggered 10 year terms so a new person is elected and an old one retires every year, proportional representation to break the two-party system, a 100% tax on any outside income for life for any executive committee member, senator, or representative, a method for the people to directly initiate laws and constitutional amendments... the list of things we could do to fix this mess is long.

The one thing congress could possibly do is pass an enforceable code of ethics for the SCrOTUS, with actual criminal penalties and removal of that code from their jurisdiction. But I can't see the Rethuglicans going along with it.

You're more long-winded than you used to be.

It makes you more tiresome.
