Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Whatever happened to polar bears? They used to be all climate campaigners could talk about, but now they're essentially absent from headlines. Over the past 20 years, climate activists have elevated various stories of climate catastrophe, then quietly dropped them without apology when the opposing evidence becomes overwhelming. The only constant is the scare tactics. Protesters used to dress up as polar bears. Al Gore's 2006 film, "An Inconvenient Truth," depicted a sad cartoon polar bear floating away to its death. The Washington Post warned in 2004 that the species could face extinction, and the World Wildlife Fund's chief scientist claimed some polar bear populations would be unable to reproduce by 2012.

Then in the 2010s, campaigners stopped talking about them. After years of misrepresentation, it finally became impossible to ignore the mountain of evidence showing that the global polar-bear population has increased substantially. Whatever negative effect climate change had was swamped by the reduction in hunting of polar bears. The population has risen from around 12,000 in the 1960s to about 26,000.

Speaking of activist and the things they say

When is Obama going to invade Texas, imprison "conservatives, nationalize all illegals, institute sharia law, suspend democracy and destroy America

You should know, after 8 years misrepresentations of your own

Polar bear population decline a wake up call for climate change action
Southern Beaufort Sea polar bears show 40% drop in number

Forty percent. That's the stunning population loss for polar bears in the southern Beaufort Sea. The news comes from a new study linking the dramatic decline in this polar bear subpopulation in northeast Alaska and Canada to a loss of sea ice due to climate change.

How does climate change affect polar bears so dramatically? Polar bears rely on sea ice to access the seals that are their primary source of food as well as to rest and breed. With less sea ice every year, polar bears and many other ice-dependent creatures are at risk.

Today's study, published in Ecological Applications, analyzed data on polar bears in northeast Alaska and the Northwest Territories and documented a 40 percent population loss between 2001-2010 from 1,500 to 900 bears.

An urgent need to address climate change

www.worldwildlife.org

Here in Florida, the "Climate Chang deniers paradise," our Republican led Lrgislature and our climate change and history denying Governor actually passed a bill forbidding the words "Climate Chabge" from all state documents as if banning words will change the reality that climate change is real and coral bleaching is obvious to anyone who dives.
"Climate Change denier" is the new term for Village Idiot, Hey, how do you like the heat wave , has supercharged forest fires in the west? Question, do you actually wear blinders so that your ideological nonsensical cult dogma isn't questioned except by Woke Communiststs etc. I huess that makes me a Woke Communist because I just won't wear the blinders required to be a Re a member of the MAGA cult!

Good grief

It's a garbage opinion from a garbage publication, posted by a purveyor of garbage

Why do you people even respond as if any real discussion is going to come from this

Since Kamala became the official Democratic nominee Maga maroons are also now listed as an endangered species.

It's possible their populations could remain stable but it's more likely they will all beach themselves somewhere near Mar-a-Lardo.

It's interesting that the author agrees that climate change is both real and man made.

His view is that we should just get used to it, rather than try to mitigate it.

It's not climate denial. Everything in the article is factual and the author of the article has never once denied that CO2 emissions are making the planet warmer.

It's not climate denial.

He calls it fiction. That's pretty close.

I've cancelled my WSJ sub so I can't read this.
I can't support this kind of nonsense nor can I support those in charge of it.
This is a perfect example of why I did the above.

Having said that, I know Bjorn's "work" and it's garbage. It's not factual.
From the little I read in this latest "presentation" it became obvious this is no different than I've seen or expected.
You don't validate a premise based on the number of "hits" in headlines. That is stupid.
You don't present that "finding" as some find of support for that premise.
I put this in the category of "propaganda to make idiotic deniers feel good."

Garbage? Non-factual? Outright lies?

Climate change:
An issue governments use to tax first-world countries until they're broke to "fix" said climate change, while continuing to manufacture and pollute third-world countries.

#18 - There's so much research material out there that refutes the premise you put forward I didn't think it was worth my time. It's stupid, and as I said I cancelled my WSJ (when Murdoch took over and it became garbage several months later). I don't need to refute this garbage because anyone that does even a basic search on google will find out its garbage.

Are polar bears better off now than they were 10 years ago? Oh hell no.
Are penguins better off now than they were 10 years ago? Oh hell no.
Are mosquitos spreading "tropical" diseases further and further north? Yes.
Are more and more species threatened by climate change? Yes.
Is desertification spreading? Yes.
Are people being driven to migrate because of climate change? Yes.
Is salt water intruding, flooding happening from tides, and locations becoming unlivable because of rising seas? Yes.

Has any of the above improved in the past 20, 10, 5 years? Oh hell no. It has only gotten worse.
This is obvious no matter how many "hits" there are on a newspaper page. Only an idiot refers to that as proof of anything (other than the press's desire for clicks).

#19 | Posted by YAV at 2024-08-04 08:19 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

BTW - the headline is a total joke. None of those are "fictions." What a truly enormously dumb thing to state.

I've now given this way more time and thought than was warranted,

"Are polar bears better off now than they were 10 years ago? Oh hell no."

What are you even basing that on? Their numbers are increasing. That would indicate they are better off. Oh, I see. You must have interviewed a bunch of them and they told you they were happier 10 years ago. I see it now.

I asked a question: why did you lie about something so easily fact-checked?

It almost seems you're pathological.

Are you planning to retract, or are you planning to leave that turd out there?
