Donald Trump falsely claimed that Kamala Harris somehow cooked up being Black to her political advantage years after he and his father claimed to be Swedish, according to reports. The Swedish lie was first floated by Trump's father, the late Fred Trump, whose own dad was a German immigrant. Trump's mother was a Scottish immigrant. Donald Trump repeated the lie that his grandfather "came from Sweden as a child" in his ghost-written autobiography "The Art of the Deal," the New York Times noted.

The Trump family hid its German heritage "in large part because Fred Trump was trying to sell apartments, often to Jewish tenants, in the aftermath of World War II," the Boston Globe reported in 2017. Fred Trump used to say: "You don't sell apartments after the war if you're German," John Walter, a family historian and one of Donald Trump's cousins, told the newspaper at the time. "So he's Swedish, no problem."

Major Trump critic Omarosa Manigault Newman, his one-time White House aide and participant on his reality TV show "The Apprentice," pointed out the Swedish lie in an interview with CNN Wednesday saying Trump's father thought a fake Swedish ancestry would "play better to those who were patronizing his businesses."

She added: "Donald doesn't know the difference between ancestry and race. He doesn't want to know the differences, nor does he understand the nuances of how people self-identify."

Trump is careful never to point out that four of his his five children were born to immigrant mothers as he rails about immigrants.

Donald Trump's greatest superpower is taking his greatest political weaknesses or points of vulnerability and turning them back on his opposition - often when there is no actual connection to them whatsoever.

If Trump wasn't a master at projection, he never would have steamrolled the entire GOP, taking it over and placing it under his stubby little thumb.

I'm not sure if it was when they were still "Swedish all the way" or after they suddenly "became" German ... . but the Trumps originally ran brothels in the US. This was back before they got into the Bible business, of course.

Oh boy, liberals now using different types of whiteness to try to counter their beloved use of saying white people have no culture.

Liberals are the one who made whiteness trivial, so any whiteness a candidate uses to gain an advantage is meaningless. It's only non-white people who can use genealogy as an advantage. So, the point this discussion is trying to make has no relevance. Kamala is using it to gain an advantage...sticking to the whole "say anything to get votes" platform Dems have been on for the last 10 years or so. White people can't do that as liberals have pointed out so, so many times (because they think just being white, of any nationality, is already an advantage).

I can't really say this is a lack of common sense because I can see how understanding a debasement of your own making is difficult sometimes.

Whiteness isn't trivial. It's the whole reason for MAGA's existence.

Trump's latest dumb plot is to pretend that Kamala Harris changes her identity at will when it benefits her to do so. The problem is, that is precisely what the Trumps did - to make money, of course. The Vice-President has always been the child of parents of Indian and Jamaican heritage, whereas the Trumps were just temporary fake Swedes out to make a buck.

I'm 100% Aryan. My father looked like a blond Johnny Weissmuller, and my mother was a ten. Trumps breed only the best. And we're very Christian too. I'm no church all the time saying the rosary, saying grace, and charity too! I'd tell you all the charities I support but all of them made me sign what I call non-disclosure agreements, so I can't say, but they're all famous. And at Penn, where I graduated from Wharton, they want to change the name of the business school to Trump, but I said no thanks--students will think it's too good a school...
