... The future USS New Jersey, a fast-attack submarine, will become a deployable part of the Navy's force during the ceremony at Naval Weapons Station Earle in New Jersey on Sept. 14, culminating five years of construction that represents a historic shift in how Navy submarines are designed.

The New Jersey is the 23rd Virginia-class submarine, but it is the first of its kind " designed from the keel up with specific modifications for gender integration.

"The submarine community is a fully gender-integrated warfighting force," said Vice Adm. Robert Gaucher, commander of Submarine Forces Atlantic. ...

I wonder if the rest of the class will use the same design? I would imagine so.

Given the tight quarters I've seen on subs, I predict many pregnancies.

Given the tight quarters on subs I predict the only place they'll be able to have sex is in front of everyone.

The Virginia class is a great platform, I didn't see whether this is a Block III or IV version, but the capabilities of the US submarine cannot be overstated in how they are peer-less under the sea.

Yeah it gets cramped in there and junior E's who are unqualified have to hot rack. The numbers slip my mind but there are around 2/3s rack space for on-board crew members.

How the hell is one unqualified to hot rack?

#8 | Posted by Tor at 2024-09-10 12:28 PM | Reply

My unit deployed for 10 months in 'tight quarters.' No pregnancies. Unless Tuberville or some other villian proscribes birth control on DOD platforms I bet they figure it out.

Curious like Tor, how would you get assigned to a fast attack vessel if not qualified?

Hot rack? Effing gross. Sleeping in the barracks was hard enough for me. I remember how bad my battle buddy stunk. I'd learn how to sleep standing up if I ever had to hot rack with somebody like that.

But what if she was hot (or you had not seen another woman for 100 days)?

Check out the story about the USS Acadia from the gulf in the 90s. The commanding officer claims there was no evidence of fraternization, but the pregnancy rate among female crew was 10% (36 out of 360). Whether it happens on the USS NJ will be an interesting test, especially if they cannot blame the pregnancy on ports of call, or pre-deployment.

I've never rode on a sub personally, but I have the fortune of working with a lot of prior submariners right now. It all has to do with those folks getting to know the sub from end to end and earning their warfare device.

This article has a small description of the warfare pin qualification: taskandpurpose.com

9000 dollar toilets and 60000 tampon dispensers.

Sounds like you're another one of those conservative males grossed out by female anatomy. I would have suggested joining the US Navy to get away from that sort of thing, but I guess you're SOL now... Maybe try hanging out in a gay bar restroom instead.

...

Sounds like one of those weirdos that says stupid crap and makes up and spreads lies to try and sow hate and discontent to deflect from his hero Trumpy's criminally negligent pathological lying.

You know ... the kind of weirdos Americans are all sick of.

So I am so very interested as to what you think makes a woman's toilet more expensive than a man's.

Please do tell. Is it because they're painted pink?

I don't know why they would need 60,000 tampon dispensers on a boat. How many women are going to be on this one boat? Or do the women in your world need more than one tampon dispenser per person?

So much fun to see hysterical old men lashing out against the reality of the world.
