More from the poll...

... Economic optimism is driven mostly by Republicans, with nearly eight in ten saying they expect their financial futures to turn brighter in 2025, compared to half of independents and just 30% of Democrats.

Still, Americans overall are skeptical that prices will come down over the next year. Just over four in ten respondents think inflation and the price of goods will decrease during that same period. ...

Americans, however, seem less eager to get into a trade war. Nearly half of respondents approved of new tariffs on imported goods, while 45% said they would support it.

Warning signs for Trump agenda

While Trump had an advantage on Election Day among voters who felt he could better handle the economy, many independent-leaning Americans remain skeptical of his potential agenda outside of inflation and taxes. ...

That includes pardoning the more than 1,500 people charged with crimes related to the January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol. Sixty-four percent of respondents said they opposed the pardons, including 68% of independents. Still, more than half of Republicans (56%) said they would support it. ...

Nearly three-quarters of respondents, including 64% of Republicans, oppose restricting women in combat.

Though not one of the policy positions of the president-elect during the campaign, his nominee for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, has previously made clear his opposition to both genders serving together in combat.

Other priorities Trump has vowed to act on in the early days of his next administration have support from just about half the country " including shutting down the U.S.-Mexico border (50%) and easing restrictions on fossil fuel drilling (46%). A majority, 57%, supports downsizing the federal government. ...

Well bitches too late now, you're in it up to your necks.

Enjoy the ride.

Just as an aside.

"Economic optimism is driven mostly by Republicans, with nearly eight in ten saying they expect their financial futures to turn brighter in 2025,"

No one has every accused Republicans of being bright but those very same idiots should be thanking Biden/Harris.'

From the sub-summary...

... Despite Trump's claiming a mandate ...

Wow. A mandate?

OpEd: Trump thinks he won a mandate to change America. History says otherwise.
thehill.com

... And no, this isn't just about demographic changes; it's about our ever-shifting national mood. After all, how else can we explain two-time Barack Obama voters switching to Trump in 2016?

A major driver of this volatility is that newly elected presidents tend to overestimate the mandate they've been given, assuming they've won a sweeping endorsement for their entire agenda. Joe Biden fell into this trap, convinced he could be the next Franklin D. Roosevelt or Lyndon B. Johnson, and his ambitious policy moves likely contributed to the outcomes (such as inflation) that helped Trump reclaim the White House.

These days, Trump seems at risk of a similar misinterpretation. His initial staffing choices " appointing former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) as attorney general, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as head of Health and Human Services, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as director of National Intelligence, and Fox News host Pete Hegseth as Defense secretary -- signal a radical direction that feels like a bridge too far for many average Americans.

While Trump openly campaigned on a platform of disruption and retribution, few of his voters were expecting these specific moves. ...

American voters have decided. Like it or not, we now will live with it. Personally, I keep reminding myself that I should not be too affected by Trump's numerous brain-dead policy ideas. Bitter-sweet consolation as I watch my nation about to be flushed down the international drain by right wing morons.

imo, this is a mandate...

Limiting Government, 1980"2010 (2010)
www.cato.org

... Ronald Reagan won the 1980 presidential election decisively.

He beat incumbent president Jimmy Carter by 10 points in the popular vote.

In the Electoral College, Reagan carried 24 states by more than 10 points, 14 of them by more than 20 points. ...

[emphasis mine]

Yeah, that's a mandate.

Economic optimism is driven mostly by Republicans...

Republicans elected a guy who bankrupted an oil company, then they elected a guy who bankrupted a casino.
Why anyone thinks they are competent in fiscal matters is beyond me.

@#8 ... Why anyone thinks they are competent in fiscal matters is beyond me. ...

Competence does not seem to be the issue at hand.

More important seems to be something along the lines of ...

~OK, I contributed $xxM to your PAC. Now I expect multiple times that in return via tax reductions. A return on that investment.~

In other words, the apparent fiscal incompetence you cite seems to be viewed as an advantage.

What really matters is the transfer of the Country's wealth from workers to the wealthy.

The only thing I can guarantee is, before January 2027, congress will pass a tax cut for multimillionaires and billionaires.

Democrats tried to elect a woman who spent more than she had in her campaign fund, and is now in debt.

Sounds alot like my wife.

There will be a laff riot on Capitol Hill when the Leon and Vivek comedy tour show up and try to convince lawmakers to cut billions of jobs, roads and defense projects in states and districts nationwide. There will be a double stabbing on a live C-Span cablecast. And that comic book of a report on cutting government waste and gaining greater efficiency? It will be held closer to lawmakers' hearts than the Gaetz report from the House Ethics Committee...

I'd bet she'll pay her debts. While you elected a guy who still hasn't paid multiple venues/cities for his campaign events. You have no high ground in this argument.

When was the last time we had a Republican president who didn't cause a recession during their term?

70's maybe?

Cleaning up after Republican Recessions, and taking the blame for how long and painful it was... is the Democrats only job, according to Republicans.

"With a Republican in the White House, though, the economy's growth slowed to 2.54%, the economists found. With a Democrat in office, growth jumped to 4.35% on average."

"The U.S. economy has performed better when the president of the United States is a Democrat rather than a Republican, almost regardless of how one measures performance," according to the report titled "Presidents and the Economy: A Forensic Investigation."

"Our rating: True

While it is difficult to assess blame for the root causes, at least one recession did begin under every Republican president since Ronald Reagan compared with zero under Democratic presidents over the same period."

Well, I say its time to let people suffer with what they voted for.

I'm tired of voting to clean up the Republican mess.

Trump tariffs cause food prices to soar? Don't eat.
Trump wipes out Obamacare, limits vaccines, and you can't get medical help? Be a cripple in pain for the rest of your life.
Housing and rent prices skyrocket? Live under a bridge.
Social Security and Medicare cuts? Join your families under the bridge and pray you don't get sick or injured.
FEMA gone and rebuilding now three times the price because illegal immigrants are gone? Find a nice bridge to live under.
Dept of Education gone but you have a special needs kid? Quit your job and take care of them...under the bridge...with your elderly parents...dumpster diving for food...and pray no one gets sick or injured.

It's time for Democracy Darwinism.

Reagan showed the world that a majority of Americans will vote for a dementia-addled treasonous actor if given a chance.

I think one message is clear: Jon Stewart need to be the next Democratic nominee.
