In Chester, NY, John J. Reilly III (48) shot a Door Dash delivery driver (age 24) who knocked on his door after getting lost. Reilly told the victim to get off his property, before firing multiple shots at the victim as he attempted to leave in his vehicle, striking the victim once in the back, causing serious physical injuries. Reilly is the Town of Chester Highway Superintendent and a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL). In an average year, 870 people die and 2,607 are wounded by guns in New York. Throughout the US, every eleven minutes someone is murdered with a firearm. This deliveryman is lucky to be alive after being shot in the back by this lunatic.

Anybody want to bet the shooter is a Republican?

John J. Reilly is charged with three felonies: Assault in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

Note Bene: The suspect is a federal firearms dealer and is charged with criminal possession of a firearm, hence the ATF is also investigating this maniac and his arsenal.

An indictment is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

I would wager that he finally had a chance to murder someone in cold blood, and just couldn't pass up this opportunity to fulfill his life long ambition to actually shoot someone.

Living his dreams so to speak.

Unfortunately, it's a common meme dream among rwingers.

An armed society is a polite society.
Who ever came up with that insane BS anyway?

Robert Heinlein.

But if you read his books you realize that most of his characters are sane and competent.

"firing multiple shots at the victim as he attempted to leave in his vehicle"

Well, it was an aggressive retreat.

Not anymore.

Imagine being so toxically fragile that you shoot a door dash driver who was lost.

That's todays alpha males.

Has Trump pardoned him yet?

Robert Heinlein.

Heinlein is a well known fascist. Literally an apologist for war, and not some notion of a Thomas Aquinas Just War, but rather, just war. He would likely blame the victim for being unarmed in a world of people whose heads aren't screwed on tight. He lived in the world-view Joe Haldeman portrayed in the later pages of The Forever War, where Heinlein would have blamed anyone for going out in public without a bodyguard for the inevitable violence that befalls them. That's the gist behind an armed society is a polite society. It's the same gist as "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy is a gun." It's a Cowboys and Indians tough guy fantasy that makes good fiction but doesn't apply to reality, and that's why most of us grow out of it.

He's kinda like Republicans back when they still hated Russia.
Before Republicans had to start hating America because of Obama.

Answer from Kyle Jones on Stack Exchange:
As for how Heinlein reconciled the pacificist and warrior viewpoints, consider this excerpt from a speech he gave to a brigade of midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy in 1973:

I must pause to brush off those parlor pacifists I mentioned earlier... for they contend that their actions are on this highest moral level. They want to put a stop to war; they say so. Their purpose is to save the human race from killing itself off; they say that too. Anyone who disagrees with them must be a bloodthirsty scoundrel -- and they'll tell you that to your face.

I won't waste time trying to judge their motives; my criticism is of their mental processes: Their heads aren't screwed on tight. They live in a world of fantasy.

Let me stipulate that, if the human race managed its affairs sensibly, we could do without war.

Yes -- and if pigs had wings, they could fly.

Perhaps Zatoichi, with his blind obeisance to the Second Amendment, while firearms are the leading cause of death of children in the Untied States, is an apt comparison.

He could have been delivering peanuts, and that's deadly to some.

Having a job does bring increased risks compared to sitting on the couch.
That's why you don't have a job.

"Let me stipulate that, if the human race managed its affairs sensibly, we could do without war."

Or governments.

"If Men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and the next place, oblige it to control itself."

"Has Trump pardoned him yet?"

He can't unless it's a federal crime?

Too bad this was not in Texas.

It wouldn't even be prosecuted there so a pardon would even be needed.

Wouldn't ...

I have driven through Chester, NY and am glad that I never stopped there.

The economics of John J. Reilly III's folly:

The median value of a home in Chester, NY is $399,000, the median household income is $147,000, and the average annual salary for a Highway Superintendent in New York State is $129,718. In essence, John J. Reilly III was living, pardon the pun, the Life of Riley in his 64% white majority hamlet of 12,588 people while enjoying his well-paying sinecure. But that wasn't enough for him, so he also sold firearms using his FFL. But Mr. Reilly is being investigated by the ATF after he shot the poor guy in the back with an illegal weapon.

BLUF: This imbecile had it real good until he tripped over his own hatred and racism. Now the ATF is dismantling John J. Reilly III's firearm trafficking business, he will lose his $129,718 per annum sinecure, and he will be facing state and federal charges. This dope threw away his life away "protecting his property."

That's Deplorable Trumping MAGAts for you.

The entire movement is based on racism and white nationalism.

And this racist dope in that little hamlet out of harm's way fkkked himself over when he had a terrific little gig going making money for himself hand over fist. Sidenote: During his mob career, Benjamin "Lefty" Ruggiero got away with a score of assassinations without ever getting caught, possibly 27 victims. "Lefty" was finally convicted on RICO charges thanks to FBI SA Agent Joseph Pistone. But "Lefty" got away with a lifetime of killing, never convicted of a single homicide.

The IRA would be embarrassed by this idiot Irishman and his stupid racism.
