Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, June 17, 2025

During our recent interview, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said something arresting that we just can't shake: Everyone assumes AI optimists and doomers are simply exaggerating. But no one asks: "Well, what if they're right?"

... We wanted to apply this question to what seems like the most outlandish AI claim " that in coming years, large language models could exceed human intelligence and operate beyond our control, threatening human existence.

That probably strikes you as science-fiction hype.

- - - But Axios research shows at least 10 people have quit the biggest AI companies over grave concerns about the technology's power, including its potential to wipe away humanity. If it were one or two people, the cases would be easy to dismiss as nutty outliers. But several top execs at several top companies, all with similar warnings? Seems worth wondering: Well, what if they're right?

- - - And get this: Even more people who are AI enthusiasts or optimists argue the same thing. They, too, see a technology starting to think like humans, and imagine models a few years from now starting to act like us -- or beyond us. Elon Musk has put the risk as high as 20% that AI could destroy the world. Well, what if he's right? ...

What if they're right?

Means we're all gonna die.

And like ol' Jonie says: "we all are going to die".

So...there ya have it.

We have much better evidence that AI is contributing to greenhouse gas emissions than we do that it is a worthwhile hyped investment

"They" are right.

AI is already influencing you and your decisions in ways you are not even aware of.

The Singularity is Nearer.

The interesting thing about "event horizons" is you cannot detect that anything has really changed from your local frame of reference when you cross it.

No worries!

AI is just not capable of being self aware!

Just ask it.

Humanity is on a speed run to extinction. Not sure how AI could make it any worse.

AI is a glorified Calculator. OVER HYPED.

It's not HAL on 2001 a Space Odyssey.

It's more like a programmable TV remote with voice functions.

Yeah. You keep on believing that. Actual working humans are now being displaced by AI. AI is already controlling much of what you see and hear. It's making movies and books.

A TV remote only took the job of children who changed the channel for their lazy parents.

AI is something fascists can use to comb through everything on the internet and flag anyone who is critical of the fascists who own and control the AI.

That's a pretty dangerous calculator.

Look up Peter Theil and what his company Palantir is doing with the fascist administration.

There's a decent chance you and I will be prosecuted or punished someday for thing we've posted thinking we were protected by the first amendment.
