Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Trump administration is demanding that Venezuela's interim leader take several pro-U.S. actions that her predecessor refused if she wants to avoid a similar fate. The Trump team thinks Rodriguez is on a "short leash" and is "confident they can whip her in whatever direction they want before they dispose of her and move on," a person close to the administration said.

"Aside from military options, the U.S. has other carrots and sticks to win Rodriguez's cooperation " including sanctions relief and access to her financial assets, which are largely in Doha, Qatar, according to a person familiar with Trump's Venezuela policy and another person familiar with the matter.

The U.S. has an "enormous amount of leverage on Rodriguez and the others," said Elliott Abrams, who served as special representative for Venezuela in the first Trump administration.

"We have proved that we can seize people in downtown Caracas."

Abrams, who said Rodriguez also has assets in Turkey, predicted that even the specter of discussions about her finances would be powerful in dealing with her personally.

"The statement that we're talking to the Qataris and the Turks about her money obviously would be quite a threat," Abrams said."

So the US government is now a mob operation with the US military as its enforcers.

Are we winning yet?

Yet you had no issue with Biden putting a $25 million dollar bounty on Maduro. The only problem for you is someone actually did something about it unlike the last useless administration.

So, Pres Trump seems to be running Venezuela, just as he said he would?

Too funny.

In Court, the Trump Administration is backing away from the accusation that Maduro is a drug-dealing dictator.

Trump lied to you to get you excited.

Don't worry. There will be other lies.

Humorously related ...

Jon Stewart says Trump reverse ICE'd' Maduro: He was actually imported'
www.newsnationnow.com

... on Stewart says President Donald Trump helped orchestrate a "reverse ICE" operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicols Maduro.

"He was actually imported to a jail in Brooklyn," Stewart quipped of Maduro.

Stewart focused his Monday monologue on Maduro while hosting Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" days after Trump announced that the U.S. had captured Venezuela's president as part of a "large-scale strike" in the South American country.
What did the Venezuela briefing tell lawmakers?

"This is actually a very fraught moment for the world," Stewart, a frequent Trump critic, said.

"It is highly unusual for any government, any sovereign nation, to violate the airspace and territory of another sovereign nation and hit the grab-and-go on their president," the comedian said.

"Look, no one knows how this operation is going to work out," Stewart said.

"But based on the United States's track record, my guess is we're going to be really happy about this for a couple of weeks, and then 30 years from now, there will be a Venezuelan leftist revolution," Stewart predicted, "and the new government will point to this moment as the reason our embassy there is on fire, and it will absolutely ruin a Democrat's presidency."

"Generally, that's how this [stuff] works," Stewart said.

"And remember, the reason MAGA was so high on Donald Trump was that he was the guy who wasn't going to get involved with this kind of [stuff] anymore," Stewart told the audience, before cueing up a 2020 clip of the president.

"We do not seek war. We do not seek nation building. We do not seek regime change," Trump said at the time.

Stewart also hit at Trump's comments about his desire for the U.S. to take over Venezuela's oil production.

"We're going to have presence in Venezuela as it pertains to oil," the president said Sunday.

"Generally in American history, when we intervene in another country -- whether true or not -- we come up with a high-minded pretense: liberating the people, spreading democracy, introducing baseball to the Japanese," Stewart told his "Daily Show" audience.

But the Trump administration, he added, is "going full conquistador in front of our eyes." ...

I am pretty sure most of the Venezuelans cheering orange pig man's actions are not cheering and dancing in the streets for him to exploit their natural resources but to return their democracy. The irony is thick for these people not being able to walk through the streets in the U$A without the fear of some ICE fascists grabbing them and sticking them in some US or Salvadorian gulag all the while dancing and cheering for his war actions back home. I guess they will eventually figure out he did not kidnap Muduro for them but for his own self interests. These people vote for right wing ------- fascist where ever they go which is against their own interests in the USA and here in Latin America yet, they still have not got the memo that the US white wingers nor any other right winger in the countries they have migrated to in Latin America does not like much less want them in their countries. Staggering irony. A little irony too with the American white wing that thinks that all immigrants automatically vote democrat. Venezuelans do not.We just had an election here in Chile and they helped elect an abject Nazi ---- who wants to deport them all. I guess a rule is that if you are right wing you have got to be stupid? I have met hundreds of middle class Venezuelans who are doctors, lawyers, engineers etc.. and while they are usually very nice folks, they completely ignore the reasons for the Chavez movement in their country; children had no shoes, schools, health care, access to clean drinking water and were cut out of all that fat cash that their oil companies produced and so that revolution was worthy if you ask me. Maybe next time these people will decide to spread the wealth if they ever get their democracy back from the criminals that have taken it over but I fear Trump and his vampire buddies in big oil have other plans for that loot.

@#20 ... not cheering and dancing in the streets for him to exploit their natural resources but to return their democracy. ...

During his press conference explaining the military action against Venezuela, Pres trump said the word "oiil" over twenty times.

I did not hear him say "democracy" once.

Indeed, he left the brutal regime in place.
