Surfing trains has been a problem in NYC also.

To the point that the MTA (NYC's transit folk) have installed webcams to help them see when it is occurring and arrest those doing so.

Yeah, was going to post something about that next. Looks like we have a nationwide stupidity epidemic.

Didn't think I'd ever look at the kids eating Tide pods as the smart ones in that generation.

This isn't new. We didn't have passenger trains but could ride on top of freight cars for a couple of miles. Scramble off when it slowed down for a curve at the other end of town.

I blame the movie Gandhi for starting the trend.

I like how his response to this is to post "news" featuring the social media posts.

Why are kids surfing trains, that's reckless.
Anyway, here's some videos of kids surfing trains.

My paternal grandfather was a brakeman for the railroad. It was one of the most dangerous jobs around because train surfing in all sorts of weather was part of it. He was killed falling off and landing on the tracks as the train was moving. It was a mess.

Wow! I had no idea that was part of the job. Always imagined some guy pulling a lever inside the train, like Bugs applying the "air brakes" on this airplane.

Some real occupational hazard he had to deal with.

I used to watch this german kid who had some sort of incurable health issue (found the video it was leukemia which is what I thought but couldn't remember) and he would post train surfing videos including at least one on a german bullet train. Pretty impressive and I guess if you knew you were dyeing already and you find it fun go for it. This was the guy. Used to be a bunch more videos but I guess time has lost most of them (or I just don't remember enough details to find them).
