And what about the bipartisan tax deal, which extended Trump-era tax breaks for businesses and expanded the child tax credit? Bloomberg News reported a few weeks ago that Senate Republicans "don't want to hand President Joe Biden an election-year victory on the legislation."

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa was quite candid on this point, telling NBC News he wasn't inclined to support a compromise measure that "makes the president look good" ahead of this year's elections.

A few weeks earlier, House Republicans also derailed a bipartisan compromise on border and immigration reforms. Asked why, Republican Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas said, "Let me tell you, I'm not willing to do too damn much right now to help a Democrat and to help Joe Biden's approval rating."

In other words, on a wide variety of domestic priories - from the border to the economy, cancer research to internet access - Republicans are putting election goals over national needs.

Remember when Covid was rampaging across America months before our last Presidential election? Remember Democrats uniting to deny then President Trump and the GOP the passage of pandemic relief, including checks to most households with the President's name prominently included in the announcement mailings?

Didn't happen. Not only were Democrats unafraid to provide help to American citizens while a Republican was in the White House, they proposed even more relief efforts and governmental financial support across a wide swath of legislation easing the pain of pandemic-caused shutdowns and layoffs.

When one party in a tacitly two party system abdicates all semblances of actually caring about the needs of their own constituencies when coming in conflict with their partisan electoral needs. That should tell voters something very important. The only thing the GOP politicians and RNC care about is grabbing and holding onto power, full stop.

And that should be a powerful reason to keep them from ever achieving their goals if one wants government to actually serve the needs of the people instead of the needs of millionaire and billionaire donors seeking to ease America's transition into an authoritarian-led oligarchy, nee kleptocracy.

We're already and Oligarchy, Kleptocracy.

That ship sailed with Citizens United. It's all damage control at this point.

I agree that the Republicans are far worse, but many Dems are fully down with Oligarchy.

Revolution is probably the only solution but all the energy for that is on the wrong side of the issue.

Yep. Why does the GOP push 'right to work' laws and crack down on unions in Red States.
Why do they vote against Medicare and Medicaid and expansion of benefits in these states,
or in accepting Federal Aid in these states? Everything the GOP does is in favor of big businesses,
corporate lobby groups, and the rich.

This list could go on and on, but this is an old argument, and most on the right
already know DAMNED WELL that their party is corrupt as hell.

I am sure I am going to miss that $30/month internet subsidy, but I will find a way to keep on the internet, learning and posting. If he gets re-elected, it might be the only way to get the news, once he institutes his war against the independent media. As it is, here in Oregon, some of our previously independent press have been bought up by far right tools, and the tv stations, at least some, will be propaganda outlets.

You'll have to excuse Jeff. The Judge ruled he has to keep his ankle monitor on and he is a bit pissy lately.

But don't worry, he'll still vote by mail for his hero, the Rapist Donald Trump.
