Days after suggesting he is above the law, Donald Trump declared himself "king" following his administration's push to strike down new tolls for Manhattan drivers to raise funds for the city's aging mass transit system.

You know that the ancient Romans didn't take kindly to this sort of thing at all?

This is yet more evidence that Trump is mentally ill. This particular "king" business fits right in to his craziness as a whole.
If you think he's "joking" about it, just wait.

@#3 ... If you think he's "joking" about it, just wait. ...
Given my decades of seeing [citizen] Trump on the local NYC media, I have no questions regarding whether or not he may be joking.

Not to dwell too long on the obvious but wasn't it Joseph Goebbels who said, "If you tell a lie often enough people will begin to believe it's true." (or something along those lines)
And isn't also said that the bigger lie the easier it is to believe? (Like the ones he told to get elected.

Trump has to cut $4.5 Trillion from the budget by next month to justify the tax cut for those who invested in his election. He DID promise them a return on that investment after he got elected.
Now he sounds desperate.
Could it be that he's coming up short of $4.5 Trillion and anointing himself "king" is just an end run (another Hail Mary) to put himself above any control Congress has over the budget.

FFS can we stop repeating what they want us to focus on?!?!
They have no intention of "balancing" a budget to account for the tax cuts they want to pass.
They have no intention of cutting government spending.
They're just redirecting where it flows.
That's it.

There's simply no end to the breadth of this man's scope, the depth of his expertise. While you're at it, Donnie, there's a pothole up on Windig.Way in Bumpass, Virginia that could do with some attending to.

All of the approvals, federal, state and municipal, were obtained prior to implementation of congestion pricing. The fact that the feds want to now revoke approval after implementation is a petty, transparent move by the Trump administration. Unless a court tells them to dismantle congestion pricing, it should stay in place.
Whether the Trump administration wins or loses, it will retaliate in some way. NY and other blue state governors and big city mayors need to organize and get ready for an onslaught of adverse actions by the feds.

"They're just redirecting where it flows."
Which is the whole point.
I never said a word about cutting spending. By now we all know that cutting neither waste nor inefficiency was ever the object.

It IS a regressive tax that needs to go away.
If they want to reduce congestion, they should do it with a rationing system, NOT a regressive tax.

An actual king would just declare all the funds go to him. Weird how that's not what happened

How do you know it has not happened?
How will you ever know? They do not work for you so they do not ever have to answer to you.

If you are talking about the NYC congestion tax that's possible. Its also up to the state and City of New York. It's not up to a fool who thinks he would should or could be King.

This whole thing needs to eventually make it's way to the Supreme Court. Paying tolls on roads that are built and maintained with tax dollars is a constitutional issue as I see it.
Last time I drove through Chicago, I hit a toll booth getting on a Federal Interstate as well a toll booth to exit it. That's ridiculous.

That's customarily how lots of tolls are paid: ticket (actual, electronic, whatever) on entering and charge determined based on where you exit.
