President Trump issued an executive order late Thursday directing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's board of directors to "cease federal funding for NPR and PBS," the nation's primary public broadcasters, claiming ideological bias.

"It is not clear that the president has the authority to make such orders to CPB under the law.
PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger called it a "blatantly unlawful Executive Order, issued in the middle of the night."
;;
"CPB is not a federal executive agency subject to the President's authority," the corporation wrote in a statement issued Friday morning. "Congress directly authorized and funded CPB to be a private nonprofit corporation wholly independent of the federal government."
The CPB noted that the statute Congress passed to create it "expressly forbade 'any department, agency, officer, or employee of the United States to exercise any direction, supervision, or control over educational television or radio broadcasting, or over [CPB] or any of its grantees or contractors."
Congress said that recipients of such funds "may be used at the discretion of the recipient" for producing or acquiring programs to put on the air."
First they came for Public Broadcasting....

They do have a bias, towards truth and knowledge. So of course King Dotard XIV would hate them. If he watched more PBS maybe he'd actually know what the Declaration of Independence was.

Our tax dollars should not go to them unless they stop leaning left and go politically neutral.

On principle, I agree. However pretty sure these were created by congress. A much better approach would be to replace their staff with right-wing ideological hacks and let the Democrats go from there.

They don't lean either way.
Just news and facts. Nowadays, you right wingers consider truth and facts "left leaning."

"Congress directly authorized and funded CPB to be a private nonprofit corporation wholly independent of the federal government."
So, a "fourth branch of government"?

#1. First "they" came for public broadcasting.
NO! - first Public Broadcasting itself came for and took away the ability and right of the taxpaying public to comment directly via public comments on NPR and PBS news articles. They wanted the public muzzled and taxpayers paying, because they wanted total editorial control. They wanted to end populism and public voice after Trump was first elected. They were always biased politically.
They ended public engagement. They wanted public to pay but they took away the right of public to comment just like most of the leftwing MSM (NYT, Advance Publications, Huffington, Local news, WAPO etc.
See NPR article "A year after NPR ends commenting, no plans to revive it - AUGUST 24, 2017 BY Elizabeth Jensen" public commenting was a fixture since 2008.

Apparently after SO many Trump Media Lies, factual reporting as we see from Public Broadcasting is painful to Magats.
Trump LIES to you several times a day, and you love it.

MAGA requires blatant right-wing propaganda, which is mostly lies to forward a fascist agenda
