WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday cautioned fellow Republican in Congress of the political consequences if they raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans, but added that he would be "OK" if they do increase to top tax rate.

Trump had privately urged U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson to raise the tax rate, sources told Reuters on Thursday.

The Republican president suggested an increase to 39.6% from 37% for those earning $2.5 million and higher or joint filers earning $5 million, with carve-outs for small businesses, one source said.

If it happens - and I believe that it will, it will be like spiking the football on the Democrat party. All the talking points will be officially over.

So the reason to raise taxes on the wealthy is to own the libs?

Whatever floats your boat maga maroon.

If SPITE is what it takes to make Trumpy do the right things then SPITE it is. Like I told my obstinate son once:

"I don't care how you succeed in life, in spite of me or because of me. I would prefer the later but either will work.

On income over $5,000,000? Considering 2016 39.6% bracket began at $415,000. That's a joke. Like you.

@#2 ... it will be like spiking the football on the Democrat party ...

Nah, it would be Republicans admitting that Democrats have been correct all along about increasing taxes on the wealthy.

Hardly, dumbf*&^.

First of all, there's still the capital gains tax, which is the primary means those folks earn income.

Then there's the fact that it's 2.5%. It's peanuts compared to the cuts that have happened in the past.

As usual, MAGA will fall for a hollow gesture because they don't understand what's actually happening.

If Pres Trump really wanted to raise taxes on the wealthy, the first thing he should do is allow his first term tax cuts to expire without adding more tax cuts for the wealthy.

Then there are things like IRA abuse by the wealthy ...

Yeah, except the one about Trump governing like a Clinton supporting Manhattan limousine liberal circa 1991.

Pretty sure his threat of "consequences" outweighs whether or not he'd be "ok".

And this would be a bad thing why exactly? Because it shines a light how insane the Democrat party has become since 1991?
