Yeah, why protest in front of a federal building when you're protesting the feds?

You're a ------- drooling pile of dog feces, sonny.

This is hitting a lot of us native Floridians right in the gut. I am glad to see the protests. Great video and lots of other sources for what's going on in an effort to stop the idiot DeSantis.

One of my favorite artists, hands down, one whose work I have throughout my house, is actively voicing his dissent as well. I knew he would - he and his wife love the Everglades and wild Florida. I loved seeing him, 82 years old, with a microphone actively protesting!

The people that know and love the Everglades know how incredibly stupid Uthmeier and DeSantis are when the spout nonsense about how this is "secure" just because it's in the "dangerous" Everglades. Ask the Miccosukee, the Seminoles, ask the Gladesmen, ask the other Floridians that live there. Janet Reno grew up right on the edge of the Everglades.

Yav,

Somewhat related question. Any likelihood of purging the Burmese python population or is the situation now just trying to keep it in check?

There's a (currently) huge multi-faceted effort from the government and private partners to control, and hopefully eradicate, Burmese python in the Everglades. From hunts, to tracking (radio beacons to find and eliminate nests), and on and on. No one's close to giving up on it at all, if that's what you were asking.

You should google it. I bet you'd find it interesting. There's plenty of info on it.

That's good to hear. I knew the effort was multi faceted I just haven't heard anything about the level of success.

Last year, I read about Burmese pythons mating with African rock pythons in the Everglades. African rock pythons are quite aggressive, creating a hybrid python that's not only huge but aggressive too.

Sounds like Trump's plan is to create another Devil's Island.

He musta watched the movie, "Papillon" (1973)

Living just a tad south of the I-70 corridor called "Allegator Alley" it isn't unusual to find a python taking a morning sun bath on the hood of your car.

Been there, done that.

Joe Arpaio warmed a lot of cold Republican hearts by creating a tent prison camp in the Valley of the Sun
The power and ability to casually inflict cruelty is the point.
Plenty of "good Germans" behavior here in the US feeds the beast.

I always see gators sunbathing on the other side of the chain link fence when I drive Alligator Alley.

I remember when it went past Seminole houses on stilts and you'd have to stop to let alligators cross the road.

Under this regime, the government effort will disappear soon enough.

When I was escorting foreign tourists over to see Tin City in Naples they stopped and took pictures of the basking alligators on the other side of the fence. It was quite a novelty to tell the folks back home.

As an afterthought, I also remember finding a Caiman in our koi pond. He ate all the fish.

I had an tourist from Ireland once who was amazed to find out that fireflies and walking catfish weren't myths.

Protesting has become wholly ineffective because liberals have turned it into a circus. Every opinion that is possible is something liberals feel is protest-worthy. The liberal ideology inherently includes ego and vanity as the main drivers, so over many decades that mentality has pushed the "not everyone agrees with me" narrative to make it evil, so that they feel protests are necessary to make sure their ego and vanity remain intact. It's the same exact dichotomy that makes so many Reps sit in their mansions and wonder why so many people making minimum wage are whining about it.

Voting was supposed to be how Americans let their voice be heard. Protests were supposed to be for egregious situations that are oppressing citizens to the point they have loss of freedoms. But now liberals have turned protesting into just voicing their opinion, and that's stupid...especially considering they are already loud enough and have enough media in their pockets to ensure their opinion is plastered everywhere.

"Voting was supposed to be how Americans let their voice be heard."

Typical lazy, uninformed citizen.
You think Americans should only speak to power once every four years.

Fair point which is why this particular protest won't have the impact it should. This situation is a good reason to protest, IMO.

-Voting was supposed to be how Americans let their voice be heard.

Too many folks are uninformed and ignorant. Some are so ignorant they believe elections occur every 4 years rather than 2 years.

an insurrection. At attempted coup of our government.

Protests are working. Speaking up is working. Trump would love for people to STFU. He's constantly threatening people to make them shut up. That's why it's critical to speak up, to protest, to let both houses of Congress know. Trump's "big beautiful bill" is, by 2:1 unpopular with the American people. ICE is unpopular as ever, and it was never particularly popular. Their gestapo tactics and disappearing of people like South American dictators used to do makes the United States look like a -------- nation. The protests are helping change people's minds - and that is the whole game.

-Protests are working. Speaking up is working.

unfortunately, protesting and speaking up are only effective if the power structure believes it's a precursor to upcoming elections.

If they aren't afraid protests are clue as to how a future election will turn out......they aren't terribly affective in driving change.

You think the republicans in Florida are worried they have screwed up their political careers over this detention center?

If they are, then the protests are working....if they're not......then they aren't.

The protests against turning Florida state parks into golf courses, pickleball facilities and high-rise lodging worked.
To be honest I doubt this is going to do a thing because "evil illegals raping your mother!" bullshit and the huge influx of redfux to Florida. That doesn't mean protesting isn't worth it just because you don't get a win every time.

MAGA has rotted so many brains.
