To hide the cost of renovating the plane Qatar donated to President Trump, the Air Force appears to have tucked it inside an over-budget, behind-schedule nuclear modernization program.

How much will it cost US taxpayers to retrofit the "free" Air Force One donated by Qatar? The Trump administration won't say. But attention is focused on a mysterious $934 million transfer from a Pentagon account. @sangernyt.bsky.social Eric Schmitt www.nytimes.com/2025/07/27/u ...

They don't need the money.

Members of Congress express concern that Mr. Trump will pressure the Air Force to do the work so fast that sufficient security measures are not built into the plane. When asked last week, the Air Force said it simply could not discuss the cost " or anything else about the plane " because it's classified. (For collectors of such bureaucratic evasions, yes, the Air Force is willing to discuss the cost of building a new generation of intercontinental ballistic missiles, but not the cost of renovating the president's aircraft.)
That sounds about right.

So what percentage of that cost is simply going to be stolen by insiders?

$1B of taxpayer dollars to retrofit a plane that will probably never be used.

And we're just six months into The Grift That Never Ends.

"$1B of taxpayer dollars to retrofit a plane that will probably never be used."

Oh it'll be used.

It'll be used for a nine-figure charitable deduction when Trump transfers ownership to his Presidential Library.

Maybe ten figures, after the upgrades.
